Woo Hoo! Really nice.
No I did not notice that insignificant grip issue. Pretty sure those are rather hard to find diamond grips, and expensive to buy at that if you wanted a pair. I think you would pay through the nose for a set that nice.
I take off my grips and save them and put on a nice set of modern grips from Altamont or something like that.
If I have to sell or trade them later, I have the grips they came with to put back on or .... ta have.
edit:
Oh well, I did enlarge your pic and see that now. Still, I would set them aside and put something else on for now.

Nice K-38. I have two of them. The one with the fake stag grips shipped in 1957, the other one shipped in 1950.

Yours is a 5 screw with what looks like a target hammer. The barrel appears straight and untapered? Is the barrel rib the full width of the barrel or is it narrower?

Do you know when yours was made? If you post the SN, leaving 'Xs' for the last two digits I might be able to make a guess. Be sure to include any letter prefixes.

The new S&W line is modern and improved. I certianly appreciate their modern firearms. However, there is just something about those classic S&W early models. I am behind the times on most every thing. But my old S&W revolvers are still my favorites. They just seem to point better and are more holster friendly. I warned you I am stuck in a time warp.:(:)

It's a 1949 with the wide rib on the barrel. That's when S&W quit the thinner barrel to make the K38 Masterpiece weigh the same as the K-32 and 22.
