The neat thing about it was it's my first time to load for the .358 Winchester in my Browning BLR, a gun I've used since the 80's

Bullet was a Barnes TTSX.

We make 'em bigger up here in Oklahoma ;)

Very nice harvest! He's got a really nice looking color too. Can you post more pictures with a straight on view of his rack??

Broke the front shoulder and made mush of pretty much everything in the chest. Deer still managed to jump over some logs and run 40 yards.

No complaints.

Very satisfying using your own loads. This rifle has pretty much been a safe queen due to limited ammo availability. Not a problem now

This was a pretty tame load. My desire is to see my 13 year old son hunt with it. He wasn't on this trip unfortunately

Thought Texas was a Western state? You are using an Eastern Count. The Western Count is one side only. That would be a 4 point. Is the Eastern count a standard in Texas and Okahoma?

Thanks, I did not know that. The next time a get a 4 point I will take it Texas for the Trophy count. Thanks for the information, very nice of you.:)

It was a good week. There were 4 more bucks that were taken after this photo. 2 of them were bigger than the biggest one here

How many hunters shot these?? I wish Oklahoma allowed more bucks to be taken per sesason! We are only allowed to take 1 buck for primitive, archery and rifle/shotgun seasons and 2 doe per, but one has to be taken in a different zone. It stinks!

Nice take! I always thought the biggest benefit of hand loading was the ability to dial in a perfect custom round that you could never buy. I have only three big game harvests but each was with a round that I had hand loaded for the rifle. It definitely adds to the satisfaction factor.

The difference in count seems to be more of a western species thing. White tails get a total point count, mule deer and elk get a side by side count. I don't know that I've ever seen a whitetail counted in western style. You will sure as heck get corrected if you give a mule deer a whitetail style count around here though. :)

Cool rifle, cool caliber and one heck of an awesome bullet. All of the baloney you hear about TSX and TTSX bullets not working on light critters like deer are just that, baloney.

Oh, the Barnes worked. No question about it. He was DRT, it just took him 40 yards to figure it out.

I'm looking forward to finding the optimum load for it. This was a starting load and the shot was right at 100 yards.

H&H We have White Tail Deer in the Black Hills. I harvested a nice WT Buck in the Shirley Mtns years ago. We use the Western count on these deer as well. But you are correct on counting a muley twice. It will get you run off the mountain. :(

You know, since Kansas has a few mulies in the far western part of the state, I wonder how the folks out there count the points?
As I remember it we counted black tail deer on just the one side in California too.

Well you have raised an interesting question Mac? We should have some "Jayhawks" on the forum that can answer that question.
