Happy new year everyone. Last night I stopped by a friend's house and their father wanted to show me an old side by side he had. It was a W&C Scott 12 gauze and the model looks like it was a "Monte Carlo B". The serial number was 71XXX. He said he got it from an uncle years ago and never shot it. The gun was in decent condition with no rust that I saw and fairly good bluing for the age. The barrels were nice and clean. I said I would ask on here if anyone knew about these guns since I don't. The gun has nice engravings with a game bird. The wood looked live and it had an old solid red recoil pad which I've seen on older guns although I don't know if it would have come with it or if it was after market. Any info about this gun would be much appreciated.

That is a very, very nice gun. Here is some info from the Double Gun forum...
"Period Scott literature shows that the Monte Carlo "B" was designed as a live pigeon gun, but was also available as a game gun.
The gun illustrated in the Scott literature has a semi pistol grip stock.[IE; not a Monte Carlo Stock]The name Monte Carlo was chosen as a model name for the gun because, Monte Carlo was in the era the location of many international live pigeon shooting matches.[ie: Scott guns enjoyed considerable success in the Monte Carlo competitions.]
The Rogers system side lock, action was used on guns made between 1898 & 1935.The last Monte Carlo "B" was shipped from the factory in 1950.
Earlier versions of this gun made between 1890 & 1897 feature the Perks patent action.
The Monte Carlo B was available in most bore size and Barrel lengths. Scotts classified this gun as a medium quality gun. The price with ejectors in 1914 was approx; 40 pounds stirling.
I would venture to say that depending on condition, barrel material and barrel dimensions the gun could be worth between $3000 -7000.You need to get an expert appraisal to determine its true value."

While I'd never seen a W&C Scott before the name sounded familiar and I looked in a book about Hemingway's guns and he owned a Monte Carlo B.
