Does anyone use the larger grips for the S&W 642? i have larger hands and looking at them for that issue but also don't want it to print real bad for ccw.

thanks for the link. i know where to get them just wondering if they are so large its hard to hide it.

The Pachmayr grips listed above are a good choice. They are larger but can still be concealed.

The boot grips that come with the Airweight J Frame S&W revolvers also come in a slightly larger version for the magnum J frames. They are good too so if you like the grips but for the smaller size you have that option.

Every company makes all sizes of grips for S&W revolvers. I'm sure you will find one you like.

The Pachmayr Compacs are excellent if you don't mind the extra weight plus the fact they won't accommodate a speedloader well without trimming out a recess in the grip.

Right, speed loaders and Pachmayr Compacs do not work well together.

But, moon clips with the Compacs work great. I bought a 442 Pro that came machined for moon clips. I liked moon clips so well, I had my 642 modified.

TK Custom does a nice job of machining the cylinder to accept moon clips.

Picked up a couple of these synthetic grips for my two 642's. They're full-size, with plenty of room for the pinky, but
still conceal very well in a pocket. Got em from the SW website.

Another option for a slightly larger grip would be the CT laser grip LG-305's. A bit longer than stock, with some extra material behind the backstrap that really improves the handling. In addition, you get a laser sight to come along for the ride.

Pachmayr Compac grips for J-frames are similar in size to the Hogue grips. A little different shape.
I have tried Hogues and Eagles and all sorts of aftermarket grips, but in the end I wound up a huge fan of the Pachmyer compact grips for the J frame.

I never cared for the Pachmayr Compacs on my J frames (big fan though of their Presentation and Gripper models); always thought they were a bit too big and felt awkward in my hand. Even chopped a set down with somewhat mixed results. Much prefer the factory stocks with a Tyler T-Grip adapter or else the factory boot grips.

I put the link to those grips back on Post #7. I guess you didn't check the link I posted.
I did see it a few days ago. his pic showed them on the gun so I kind of forgot about yours. Sorry. :). I looked at the link and thought they looked too large but with his on the gun I said ooh I like those.

Those are the same grips S&W ships on their Magnum J frames like the M60. They are only slightly longer than the Boot Grips only adding room for one finger.

Glad you liked it; a little Mother's Mag Polish (and a lot of elbow grease), went a long way into making that shine happen!

My 640 came with those. They're comfortable to shoot with, but make pocket carry more difficult. I finally wound up with this Crimson Trace LG-405 set:

That's not my revolver, but a stock photo from CT. There's a squishy air pocket at the top that makes .357 possible, though not particularly delightful.

I prefer wood grips, look at Altamont. They make the factory wood grips for S&W and are pretty affordable and available in a number of styles.
