That gun in the back of your safe, the one you never shoot

My Ruger 10/22.

I have a couple hundred pre-panic rounds left, and that's it. I didn't want to buy any more .22 at panic prices, so it just sat. .22 is allegedly available elsewhere, but not around here. Or at least not at reasonable prices. The local gun shop has some impressive pyramids of .22 lr, but they can keep them for $56.95 plus almost 10% sales tax.

I'd have bought a 9mm carbine by now, but I haven't found any of them particularly compelling.

Mossberg 590. Glad I have it. Probably been 10 years since I shot it. My range doesn't allow shotguns unless they're shooting skeet. They plan to put up a "patterning" lane so that people can test out new chokes and whatnot but that's not up yet.

I inherited and 1873 Winchester chambered in 32-20 from my grandfather. His Father traded a saddle for it. I put a few rounds through it a couple of years ago, but I really don't plan on shooting it anymore. It lives in a gun sock in the back corner of the safe.

Winchester 94 chambered in 30-30 from 1958. I did take it bear hunting with me this spring. We haven't bonded in years.

I have 2, one is and old Sears 20 gauge single shot I was given when I was 12, My dad learned to hunt with it and so did my uncle. I got my 1st quail, pheasant and mallards with it and more then a few rabbits. It can't shot many of the modern loads so its sits in the safe until someone in the family wants to teach their kid how to shoot/hunt

the 2nd is an old (1954) Winchester 94 in 30-30 it was my granddads and when he passed away it was given to me. He used to take it deer hunting every year and it has probably sent 50+ deer to heaven and put them on the table for the family to eat. But I already had a trusty hunting rifle and I hate cleaning a lever action so it comes out get polished and then put back in the safe.

This one, I found it in my dad's things after he passed. He never shot it so I don't see why I should either, plus I don't have any desire to shoot it anyway.

.50 calibre Flintlock Hawken I inherited from my father-in-law. Just too unreliable and I have other BP rifles that never misfire. Its a lovely thing with a big heavy barrel and a good good double set trigger, but I think the frizzen needs hardening and I just haven't got round to it yet.

It was a unfired Ruger super Blackhawk 44 mag bicentennial model (from 1976) like new in the box with all the stuff that it originally came with. I already had a superblackhawk 44 that I hunted with so that one never got fired.

Mosin Nagant M91/30.

The bolt sticks so bad I just about need a mallet to work the action, and the stock has more cosmoline than should be physically possible. It's simply baffling how much cosmo is inside the wood.

I think I last fired it in 2006? It was miserable to shoot. In the heat of the day, the grease liquefies and exudes from the rifle. All I remember is how two handfuls of stock grease makes the action about twice as hard to work and makes me not want to touch any of my other guns.

I think I payed $65 or so back in the day. I feel like I got ripped off. I'll probably get $65 worth of wallhanging out of it someday.
i will give you 65 bucks for it

I rotate my stock based on situation. Currently I have the order set up for home defense with my AR-15 12 gauge pump and FN-FAL up front with the 1903 Springfield, 1917 Enfield, and M-1 Garand at the back as I hold those for hunting and target practice.

I have a PSA AR15 that never gets touched. I bought it a couple years ago and have shot it twice I believe. I would rather plink with a 22, so it just sits there. I've been holding onto it thinking it might grow on me, but so far it has not. I may finally give in and sell it.

Yup! Grandfather gave me a LeFever Nitro Special in 16ga and a Remington 511 scoremaster 22 back in the day. Haven't shot either in many many years. They will go to my nephew at some point along with the Colt Targetsman I gave him.

If I didn't have an attachment, they would not be in the safe to start with ... I get the point, but if they are not there because I want to keep them, they are already sold :)

The gun in the back of my safe that I never shoot was bought in a private sale back when such things were legal in Colorado. It will never be sold because it can't (legally) be replaced.

And then there is this one, which was NEVER fired after proof testing. It will never be fired again.

A genuine HK91. Imported in 1981. The overall excellent condition of the rifle is part of the reason I do not shoot it much - I haven't in a couple years.

That, plus the fact I have a few other .308/7.62 chambered rifles, including an Imbel FAL and a M1A1 Chinese made clone.

My Spanish FR8 (Not the FR7) Mauser is a very cool gun, bu interests shifted into some totally different types.

It is one of the original 'scout rifle' types, at least with a few of the basic features, but no scope mount or detach. mag.
It was designed (as was the Enfield #5 "Jungle") long before the recent Ruger Gunsite in .308.

I have a target model Browning High Power that has a box or two of ammo through it.
Thinking about selling it.

My East-German marked 91/30 mosin. I bought it as my first C&R gun and was a good deal. But I also bought an M39 after that. So when shooting a Mosin, I grab the M39 and leave the 91/30.

I traded a Draco for a minty Ithaca Mag 10 years ago. He threw in about 500 rounds of various 10 gauge ammo too. I have no use for it, don't hunt geese right now, but I can't bring myself to part with it. I just simply like it.
