I have found that what I could get away with carrying concealed when I was plain clothes, is not what I can really conceal as a retired old fart. I tried a G19 but I cannot get myself to love Glocks. The grip to barrel angle is all wrong for me. So once again I am shopping around. I like a slimmer grip, hammers rather than strikers, and I became used to having some sort of beaver tail or something like it since I use a high on the gun grip. Does anyone here have extensive experience with the newer compact single stack SIG's?

I have a Sig P938 I really like. It's great for pocket carry.

I have a number of Sigs, but they are either double stack or a P938. FWIW I've been happy with all of them. Take a look at the CZ 75 Compact as well.

I thought I read someplace or another that somebody was making a 3/4 scale 1911 ( commander) in 9mm. Maybe not...

I love the way Browning P-35s feel, but they are a tad big for everyday carry to stay truly concealed. If I was going to do that I would just carry the 1911 that I built as part of an armorer class years ago. It fits me like a glove....and it can make easy eye socket head shots at 25 yards...I carried it when I was plain clothes until somebody found out it was rather customized and I had to start carrying my Sig 220. BUT, however, comma,,, It is just a wee big big and heavy for summer carry. When it sits next to your belt badge you really do not care if somebody accidentally sees it... These days I want it to be a total surprise. Springfield 1911A1.jpg

The different models have different grip angles? Really?
I didn't know this either... but find it odd that the Glock 20 points and shoots naturally for me and is a pleasure to shoot...while the others not so much. Never compared stuff like grip angles.

Well I sold my G-19Gen4 yesterday, or else I would have compared it to my G-20 SF.
The G-19G4 was very accurate with 147 grain duty ammo. ( after I installed a Gen 3 trigger system) It just pointed unnaturally for my hands, and it was a little blocky as far as concealment went.

Have you given any thought to a commander-sized 1911 with a bobtail grip? Whacking off the back corner of the grip seems to make a big difference in concealability for many.

It does not decock, but yes it it is a cock and lock carry.

68 year old eye can give me 3 inch groups

Wish I could figure out posting pics but more than happy to text pics

Oh yeah.

Of the ones I have owned, I rate grip angle

G19/23 steepest
...
...
G17/22/34/35
...
...
G27/26/30
G20/21
G20/21SF = straightest

Aside from the G19 and G17 frames, I find all the other Glocks (on my list; I haven't owned them all) very closer to middle of the road. I'd say for me, there's more than twice as much difference between a G19 and a G21SF than between a 1911 and a G21SF.

Even as regular Glock shooter and apologist, I find G19/23 somewhat comical. I shoot them fine, but it is certainly on the extreme end. For 9mm, I think G19 angle somewhat helps me to shoot it fast. For G23, I think the grip angle is too extreme for me, personally. The recoil goes more straight back, and with hot 40SW, it is a little uncomfortable for me. I wouldn't mind more "rock n roll." When people say "I pick up a Glock 19 and it points straight up," I can relate with that even switching from my other Glocks. How they point depends a bit on size and shape of your hand, though.

The only one I can think of that you may have seen advertised is the new Browning 1911. They advertise it's "85%" the size of a standard 1911. BUT, it's .380.

They use this picture in their ad...

However there are several other companies that offer smaller carry sized 1911's just as small or smaller in either .45 or 9mm.

So going back to the original question, I'm not sure what you mean by the "newer" single stack Sigs but in the current lineup there's the P239 which has been around for a while, the 225-A1 which has been out just over a year now, the P938 and the 290RS. I've carried the 239 for about five years now. Sometimes it's a bit large and heavy and take some effort to conceal but overall it's been a good carry choice for me. The 239 is as accurate as any semi-auto and it points very naturally for me. Since the release of the 225-A1, which is more or less a restyled 239, I find myself drawn to the 225-A1 and will probably buy one sometime this year. But there are times when I don't want to try as hard to conceal a firearm and have been eyeballing the 938 Extreme which is a 1911 style pistol in a very light, very compact size. I'm not comfortable with the idea of carrying cocked and locked and wish the 938 was DA/SA instead of SA. The 290 has some appeal but not just not my cup of tea either.

In that slightly smaller sized package I've looked at and rented the 938 and the Springfield XDs 9mm. I shoot them equally well but still haven't fallen in love with either. Count me in as someone who wishes Sig would make something closer in size to the 938 or even the XDs in a DA/SA configuration.

I tried a G19 but I cannot get myself to love Glocks.

The CZ75 Compact, CZ75 P-01, CZ75D PCR, etc. all are the same basic size of a G19, but they come with that old school DA/SA hammer fired metal framed goodness. You get to pick whether you want a decocker or a cocked & locked capable version.

If the darn G-19 had not been a Glock that refused to index in my hand I would have been a happy camper. It was fairly accurate with 147 grain duty ammo at 15 yards. Even 147 grain trunc cone FMJ crappy brand ammo. I was holding at the bottom of the red inner circle with a 6 o'clock hold, modified weaver stance. Slow fire. I rather like nice tight groups.
