What Guns and Suppressors do you plan on buying if the HPA passes?

If we are lucky the Hearing Protection Act will pass and be signed into law. If this happens you will simply have to go through a normal background check to buy your suppressor over the counter and take it home the same day. No more 6-9 month background check wait or $200 tax stamp.

If this happens I suspect that suppressor sales will skyrocket with thousands and maybe hundreds of thousands being sold. I think the normalization of them will make many people who were intrigued about them owning them and with voluminous amounts of information about them on the internet anyone can learn about suppressor now.


If this happens I would like to get a bolt action shotgun (most likely a Savage 110 .20 gauge) and suppressor for deer hunting. I would also like to get a new new 9mm pistol (a Springfield XD, Mod 2 if they made one with a threaded barrel or aftermarket barrel since I love my current Mod 2) and a suppressor for it. I don't know what suopressors yet.

immediately? not a damn thing.
the bum rush for all things suppressored will be insane. I'm not interested in competing in that rat race.
now, in a year+ time? I'll have to give some thought to replacement barrels for a couple things so they can get canned.

here's a semi-related question though: if suppressors are taken off NFA, what does that mean for those oil filter adapters people have used, and gotten in trouble for?

I agree there will be a mad rush too, do you think gun stores would raise the prices of their current suppressors right before the law came into effect to take advantage of this?

Except for my .25 ACP and .45 ACP pistols, everything I own shoots supersonic rounds. While I know the suppressor can take care of the noise of the bullet leaving the muzzle and the expanding gasses entering the atmophere, they can't do anything for the mini-sonic boom created by a supersonic bullet in flight. I think it unlikely the HPA will pass or be signed into law, but should it happen, I will not be buying any new guns as a consequence of it nor do I plan on buying any suppressors.
 
If the HPA became law I would probably look at something in a .22 to suppress. More than likely it would be a pistol but could also go with a handy little carbine, like a 10/22.
 
I was talking with my FFL about a .22 pistol with a threaded barrel. He stocks suppressors. He said that a lot of his paper work was being held up and recommended that I wait to see if the HPA bill passes.
 
Gemtech suppressors for my Glock 40 and 1911 (each) would be on the list. Probably a dedicated suppressor for my AR. I don't care about price increases. The bureaucratic obstruction and wait times have to go!
 
When I was in Cuba the Corps paid for a civilian to shoot feral cats and later deer. He had a fully suppressed barrel on a Ruger 77/22 stainless. It looked like a normal 77/22 with a little thicker barrel.

It was awesome. It'd be cool to get one of those.
 
I'd like one of those integrally suppressed Silencerco Maxim 9 pistols, a .22 LR can for my .22's and one .223 can for my AR's.

That's roughly it.
 
Other than perhaps another 7.62 suppressor, which I thought about before 41P went through, but didn't do. I don't seem me getting anything until the wave of integrally suppressed guns I'm expecting starts to arrive. Something like the Silencerco Maxim 9mm pistol.

I'd certainly try my hand at making my own.
 
@Speedo66 I agree, I would probably try my hand at making one from scratch, if it passes. <$100 for materials, and it arrives on my schedule, not based on the rush.
 
I would build my own if the new law allows it. A 9mm can that would work on my sidearms and PCCs would be my first priority. If it passes I will take a serious look at cutting down a 9mm carbine and pinning/welding a can that brings the barrel length back up to 16.5".

Got anything in 9x19 or .380 ACP? 147gr 9mm and pretty much all .380 is subsonic. The supersonic crack on faster rounds isn't too bad either, but it can get annoying at times.

I probably won't be getting much if/when the HPA passes - the rush to get cans will make the 41F rush look like nothing. I have most of the cans that I want already, but I could see adding another full sized 9mm can (for something like a short 9mm AR) and maybe one .223 can into the mix.

Which would destroy the looks of this fine shooting little carbine.

When prices came back down I would likely buy a Walther ppk and either get the barrel threaded or buy a threaded barrel for it. I watched too many James Bond movies as a child.
 
It is worth watching but my buying priorities would not change much, it at all if HPA passes. For one thing, not many places around me carry suppressors right now anyway. Even if they became "more legal" there is no guarantee the shops in my area would jump into that market right away or at all. I would also like to see if the actual cost of the suppressors would go down significantly. The only thing I would change on my end is be more mindful of getting threaded barrels on firearms.
 
I would definitely build a few new suppressors for my rifles, a integral suppressed 300 blk upper for the ar15, and probably a barrel or two for my savage 110 that were shortened to 16" or so and threaded, but probably no NEW guns. If SBRs get included, or the NFA got repealed, i would be buying a handful of things...

From your photo, your sights look tall enough to still be above the suppressor.
