What is this animal? It's running wild and free in Oklahoma.

Ah, yes, enter the pronghorned antelope (aka speed goat, etc.) that is neither antelope or goat, but a unique surviving member of its family found only in North America, but most closely related to giraffes.

And the Aoudad is also the sole member of its family in Africa. An evolutionary odd ball.

The taxonomy on Ammotragus Lervia is pretty solid. It is the only species in the genus Ammotragus. I'm not really getting your point?

Dang it now I am wanting a giraffe roast to smoke.

How did we go from Aoudads to Colon Cancer?
Welcome to the interwebs where one little fun fact turns into a pain in the butt........
Anyways, I'd be curious about a properly cooked aoudad but more interested in the odds of them wandering far enough north to get to MY backyard, I suppose maybe if it wasn't winter.........

They taste bad, and i eat feral goats....bunch used to be in the game park behind our shrimp farm on molokai. I watched one walk up a 9" game fence till it bent then flop over and out. I woulda shot that one (id been asked to shoot any escaped animals if i saw them), but i was working and my gun was in the truck. Good thing i didnt too it must have weighted 200lbs. A buddy shot one hunting another area and we tried to eat it.....fail.
I've also heard they are not edible, but I have no first hand experience. I did have one on my place and it moved on pretty quick. It makes a pretty shoulder mount, I would shoot it while you can.

This is the kind of exotic species that turn up here. A friend of ours had this Rhesus Macaque eating his cows' feed a couple of years ago.

Back in my day, the thing running wild and free in Oklahoma was Johnny the jet Rogers.

Three months later and he's still here and he's really growing. These pictures are at a different feeder. I think it is a male.

To us Easterners the Wyoming Goats (Antelope) smell and taste kind of like Sage Brush.
Those ranchers out in Wyoming are tough as an old cobb and have eaten so many goats
they can't taste the difference anymore. (Ha Ha)

SoonerMedic, I haven't checked because I don't plan on shooting it. I would rather have it around to watch but if it gets old and mature I may change my mind!

AHHHH Well, I'll make a trail of corn from the west side of the state to my area......reminiscent of Family Guy when they baited James Woods with candy like in ET..."ooh piece of candy. Ooh piece of candy. Ohh piece of candy" lol
