Example of just how quickly things happen...

Great story. Saw it on One America News. TERRIBLE article...
The other robber fled in terror from these would be victims turned heroes gave these bad guys a dose of street justice.

"Street justice" implies that the actions were the result of vigilantism, which would be an illegal act. This was not the case. The owner responded wholly within the law (at least it appears he did), not doling out punishment, but simply acting in self defense. He was vigilant, but not a vigilante.

The moral of this story is never try to victimize a gun shop. You certainly will not find what you are looking for.

Cute moral, but not all that true. Unfortunately, gun shops do get robbed successfully. It sounds like a really dumb idea to try it, but it works often enough that they keep trying it.

Nice center punch, just below the outstretched hands holding the gun. I'd likely tunnel on the gun and end up putting a round on the firearm or the firing hand.

Just wanted to point out, the title of the video says its a gun shop, but you can see a pressure washer and a small generator in the back ground, so its probably a pawn shop.

Right, it is Dixie Gun and Pawn. It is a pawn shop with an affinity for guns. Our family owned a store with 'jewelry and loan' in the name. We were a pawn shop that did a lot of business in jewelry, plain and simple.

Two questions:

1) What was the source of the smoke? The owner's weapon?
2) Was the glass case shot out by the perps shot?

Probably all the weapons fired contributed, but since the owner was under the camera when firing, much of the smoke will be from his weapon.

Based on how much of the display case glass shattered into the display case and out the open cabinet door, it would appear that the glass was broken by one of the perps.

That guy was DRT, dead right there. You don't often see someone shot who goes flatline almost instantly.

As a reporter I covered two or three such cases a year and I was always surprised by how many victims ten ringed the criminals like that. You expect rounds to be going all over the place in such stressful sudden confrontations but many of those I talked with who had used deadly force in self defense said they recalled extreme tunnel vision from the adrenaline rush which I think contributes to more precise aim. I remember one case where a pharmacist who had been robbed several times put a .38 round precisely between the eyes of an armed robber at about 15 feet.

Yep, things can happen really quickly ... for good or for ill.

If you have to take time to get out that "mental Rolodex" in order to think about how to react, you're probably going to run out of time. This is where training, practice, experience and mindset can help someone stay ahead of things when it comes to minimizing time spent working your way through the OODA Loop.

Where did the bullet hit Thug #1? That guy dropped like a sack of potatoes and never twitched.

Hard to tell, but a CNS hit for sure. Most likely in the spine just above the collar bone.

First bad guy enters with a gun drawn in his right hand, then pulls a second weapon from his waistband with his left hand (wanting to look especially intimidating I guess). He is facing his victim full on with both arms outstretched. Makes for a pretty good target. You can see both weapons fall from his hands as he crumples to the floor.

The gray haired gentleman appears to fire two shots at perp #1, the first shot finding its mark. Then immediately transitions to perp #2 (out of frame) and sends him 3 rounds, the results of which we are uncertain.

Agreed. First, he flinches for an instant at the sight/muzzle blast of the gun, then the bullet hits the CNS and he rag dolls. Probably spine because his head pitches forward a little, not back.

If the gray haired gentleman had hesitated for even a split second things would have been very different. That's my take-away....

I'd like to think it'll be a while before that store is robbed again.

Remarkable. I've seen a lot of gunfights and robberies captures on security cameras but it's pretty rare to see someone instantly DRT from a round or two from a sidearm.

I am so impressed with his quickness, especially considering that with that head of all white hair he can't be 20-something.

Most old guys that are shooters know what they are doing. It's not that surprising. They know what they need to do and they do it. Don't need to think about it. He (old guy) was very fortunate in this case.

I remember a video of a woman in Iran who was accidentally shot during a protest of some kind she bled out and died in less than a minute. In her case death was obvious because the blood pooled in her eyes with no reaction

Hi All,
Other boards have reported that the perp took a round in the eye and that the defender of the shop is a former IPSC, or the like, shooter.
Best,
Rob

Makes me think twice about a sub compact as a daily carry gun.
