RIP RC Model sad news

I just saw this, too - still having to wipe the rain from my eyes. He and I were at Bragg at the same time - I shot with the 18th Abn Corps pistol team (back-up understudy gofer) and he spent most his time in the armorer van. Never knew or met him then, but he was as gracious with me as he was with all of us. We messaged from time to time about the old days, sometimes about shooting. Lord, we will miss him, so Lord, welcome him home...

I am coming back to the board for the first time in a long while, and this is sad news to me. RC model helped me a lot with my questions, and was never, never critical about the topic. RIP.
My condolences to his family.

Well, as a newcomer reading through the threads.. it's obvious that RC was a *gentleman*.. sorely lacking in our modern world.. who cared. He cared about his family.. and his passions. Always helpful.
We should all emulate him. I can think of no better way to be remembered. Congratulations, sir! A life well lived.

Just trying to catch up on THR the last couple of day (I've been mostly off since the summer) and just saw this. Like others, I've learned a lot and enjoyed posts by the late RCModel. It saddens me to learn of his passing. My thoughts and prayers to his family. I hope he's doing some target practice at the big range in the sky. Rest in peace Mr. Ballard, and thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and stories.

It should be obvious that there comes a time to move on. RC wouldn't want to be held out in the spotlight for longer than is necessary. If not now, when shall we turn the page?

If there's an afterlife, RC's wife is now with him.

I had not heard that.

As stupid as this may sound, I was concerned for her particularly given her own health.

The silver lining to this dark could is that they are together again.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the update. After all those years of caring for her, it didn't take her long to join him up above.

I have to say I agree with Jim in Anchorage, it looks like people are still coming back and finding out about this, personally I think it should stay up top for a while longer. It's not a spot light but could mean a lot to folks that don't know yet. Anyway that's my 2 cents.

I went to pay my respects and talked with RC's sons a bit at the viewing. It sounded like their Mom was getting well cared for where she was. I also told them that there are still tributes being posted here about their Dad. He was quite a guy...

Are you saying that you would like it to remain a sticky... forever?

Look, it's been less than a year since RC died. He was a WEALTH of knowledge to the gun community. More people need to learn about him, his story and his message. He helped THOUSANDS of new gunnies and his memories and recommendations need not slip gently to the night.

I see both sides of this. He struck me as modest individual...

Maybe there is another way to honor rcmodel. Something like a library/folder of some of his shared knowledge. Or naming something here at THR in his honor. I don't know. Just an idea.

RC's legacy is in his posts and the people he helped, not an obituary.

We can keep his memory alive by each of us honoring his example and helping members with questions, emulating his manner on the forums and pointing others to his posts so they too can benefit.
