Any good holographic sights now that EOTech is having problems?

Meprolight Tru-Dot RDS.

I have one installed on a 9mm AR PCC although I have not used it much so I probably can't give you any significant feedback. I have no experience with EOTech sights.

I have not investigated whether or not it suffers from the same issues the EOTech has. I didn't even hear about those issues until after I had picked the Meprolight up. The scuttlebut I've seen online is that IDF uses it or something very similar. My interest is civilian plinking with probably 90% of my usage between 50/80 degrees F so either way it will probably work for me.

Thanks ddc,
But that is a red dot: does it project its image in holographic fashion?

Well, speaking only for myself, I haven't turned my back on my EOTech sights. My twelve-year-old 512 hasn't missed a beat, in spite of spending a lot of time outdoors in extreme temperations, both the heat of Eastern Washington desert in the summer and the (frozen, wet or cold) Cascades at elevation in the winters. We're still running some 511s on carbines on my job that are probably 10-15 years old (one does eat batteries fairly quickly, but no noted issues with function with the other few).

I know several owners of recent-production EOTech XPS sights, haven't heard a peep about them having any problems ...

I'm not gonna abandon my EOTech anytime soon as long as it's working -- I love it for outdoor work. Having said that, I've become a pretty big fan of the AIMPOINT PRO that I've been given; it seems more forgiving with my aging eyes and use with corrective lenses.

Thanks ddc,
But that is a red dot: does it project its image in holographic fashion?

You know... when I made my OP I was under the impression that it was a "holographic" rather than "red dot" and therefore similar to EOTech..
However I have since seen online reviews that indicate it is "red dot" and not "holographic".

I don't have the technical background to be able to tell you one way or the other. My apologies if I sent you down the wrong path.

I can tell you that I've done a little more shooting with it and for 25 yards and closer it seems to do the job from a USPSA PCC perspective. I do have a mild astigmatism and the dot does have a little bit of "bloom" to it.

At this point I can say that I like it but I'm not in love with it. I don't notice the weight but dimensionally it is a bit on the "clunkly" side. I'm in no hurry to sell it but I'm going to keep looking to see what else is out there.... :)

Well, there is the Sig Sauer Romeo 4B 1X20 MM, 2 MOA Red Dot/ 65 MOA Circle Dot Battery Powered with Low Profile Torx Mount.
Do not get too caught up with the terminology holo/red dot. If it works reliably, take it.
$350 on Amazon.

The SIGs aren't really holo sights IIRC, but as The Count says, the end result is the same kind of infinite-eye-relief reticle so it doesn't really matter. The one aspect of the tubular red-dots that may or may not factor in, is the amount of light emitted down range (which in the case of my ROMEO7 was quite significant at brighter settings, enough that something looking straight up the scope would plainly see a red dot themselves, though of course not to the extreme degree of a proper laser sight). The true holo sights like the EoTech don't direct as many photons down range for a given brightness level, which is probably why such a finicky and delicate technology was chosen over red dots for the 'affordable' modern .gov optic in the first place.

Vortex showcased a holographic sight at SHOT that's in the prototype stage. There is a vid on YouTube

20161129_121431.jpg if I have any expertise, it lies in the shotgun section, not rifles or optics.
You guys that are informed may disapprove of these sightmark reflex, but I love them. I have the cheaper version on another AR, but this one is a waterproof $200+ mil-spec version.
It works great, shoots great. Uses the same batteries as my weapon light.

As far as I am concerned, it's all good.
