California, are we done yet?
scope ring size?
Hi Ya,
I have acquired a Tasco scope with 27.75mm body diameter; what size rings do I want?
I am looking at the Warne Med height. this is for my AR15 which has the A2 front sight.

much obliged,

Max

No. First measure you scope tube. What model Tasco scope?
I got it used: only thing it says in addition to the name is 3-9 X 40;
yes 27.75mm I was thinking a 1" and tighten as much as possible. the s-Kel Mount for AR looks good to me. The mounts I got with the scope are too low to clear the hand guard.

Much obliged, Max

Then where did you get the 27.75 mm ? I would not pay that much for rings, if somethink like this would fit. http://www.weaveroptics.com/rings_bases/rings/detachable_top_mount/
The rings I have fit well. I bought the scope with rings at LGS. It was a bargain. I have both the iron sights and an Trijicon ACOG red dot good for about 50 yds. which is what I expected from this rifle. but now I would like something that reaches 100yds or more. And the Tasco looks like it will work. I didn't expect this problem. Would the 1" anything work if I cant clamp it closed all the way? then I could buy any set. I have a credit at Amazon to use up.

A scope has to clear the A2 front sight. The scope has to be high enough so you don't see the front sight. This photo show a Leapers Utg riser.

Yes, rings dont have to close all the way. The Warne rings get the bottom tightened fully first, then the top. But snug them up first, before fully tightening them.

Hookeye, wont that throw off the optics if i go too high?

Guys, you have all helped; thanks. but you know what? I am going to ask my gunny on Tuesday when the LGS opens for his opinion as to size and whether this scope is strong enough for the AR platform. if not I have it for an extra on my Ruger 10/22.
Happy New Year

hi ya xb, i showed it to my gunny; he is looking for a solution. after that i either return the scope to the LGS (same place) or buy 1" and stretch them. much obliged, Max

Hi 243, I just ordered two risers; 1/2" and 3/4" to see which will work. I will keep you posted. Much obliged, Max

hi Ya,the 1/2" riser did the trick. Kudos to gunny at Evan's range who clued me in to risers.
so far i only shot 25 yds but no trouble. mostly i needed to get over the handguard and to attach the smaller (is that weaver?) base on the rings i got with the old Tasco scope. what else i learned was that with the multiple optic in the scope the front sight although present does not show thru.
Much obliged to all for the training, once again the internet is my friend, Max
