Hey all.

I am (so happily) stuck at home this week and next after the birth of my son. Which means I live my life 2 hours at a time with a 5 day old. Feeding --> sit for 2 hours while he sleeps --> feeding.

I am staying out of the reloading room for the next bit to decrease any lead contamination, so we are watching a lot of Netflix and Youtube. Does anyone have a favorite gun documentaries on Youtube or Netflix? We have drained the well to this point

I HIGHLY recommend C&Rsenal on YouTube. They're currently doing a long series on firearms of WWI. They've done everything from Spanish copies of S&W M&P revolvers in 8mm Lebel to the 13mm German anti-tank rifle.

Each episode includes DETAILED histories, not just of the firearms, but of their designers, manufacturers, and distributors, plus range tests.

It's some of the best firearms material that I've seen that wasn't in print.

I also highly recommend ForgottenWeapons.com. Ian does similar, albeit usually shorter technical examinations of various lesser known firearms, including the Puckle Gun.

On Youtube look up Jeff Quitney. His channel is all old training vids, vintage advertisements, and documentaries. Lots of army training films on various rifles, tanks, etc. As well as a ton of other stuff from original films of the Wright brothers flying to NASA rocket films, to Betty Crocker cake testing!

On YouTube:

Hickok45 - Cool guy that is just fun to watch/listen to.

IraqVeteran8888 - entertaining guy with generally good content.

22Plinkster - Cool guy for rimfires and trick shots.

Sootch00 - Pretty entertaining, mostly reviews with some prepping stuff.

8541 Tactical - A lot of tacticool precision rifle stuff. Think Nightforce and chassis.

MrGunsnGear - Mostly tacticool AR or handgun stuff with scopes/lights.

TwangnBang - This guy is pretty entertaining as well. He has a variety of different things like crossbows, air rifles, tactical stuff, etc.. it's almost like whatever he finds cool he makes videos about.

These are not really documentary channels, but interesting none the less.

EDIT: On Amazon if you have prime there is a 13 part documentary on the history of US firearms.

Search: American Guns: A History of US Firearms.

It goes from flintlocks to the AR.

I have seen most of the episodes of "Tales of the Gun" on Youtube. Most are pretty good, lots of information I did not know. Particularly liked the ones about John Browning, Sam Colt & Smith & Wesson.

I was about to suggest Tales of The Gun too. Some episodes of Weaponology are quite entertaining even though they concentrate in military perspective of guns.

When my son was born I was off for 3 weeks. I know it's not totally gun related but I watched "Soviet Storm" it was 20 hours in total, broken down into 20 one hour segments. It was absolutely epic! A little slow getting started but really fascinating especially from Operation Bagration forward.

I also really like "forgotten weapons" but those are short videos.

Congratulations on the birth of your son!

Dan

I highly recommend "Forgotten Weapons" on YouTube. He is actually a member here. Great information. Always enjoy his episodes. Will not disappoint.

Along with some of the other YouTube channels mentioned Chris Bartocci is very informative, especially around m4/military guns. Has some good videos on history of the m4 and some other interesting videos. His reviews are also very detailed and informative. Just be aware he is not the most entertaining guy in the world, but great content imo

"THE GUN HAS PLAYED A CRITICAL ROLE IN HISTORY.
AN INVENTION WHICH HAS BEEN PRAISED AND DENOUNCED...SERVED HERO AND VILLAIN ALIKE...AND CARRIES WITH IT MORAL RESPONSIBILITY.

TO UNDERSTAND THE GUN IS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND HISTORY"

I'm not usually one for documentaries, but Tales of the Gun is a pretty good primer for several facets of gun design & history. The episodes on the Luger and Thompson got me interested in gun design as a kid.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but there is some good stuff listed here. Just watched some tale of the gun videos that rocked.

Along with Tales of the Gun, there was a similar show from the History Channel called "Guns of the World"

If you have Amazon Prime there is a show called American Guns I watched last week. Its a Prime video, free to members.

I just picked up a DVD in Wal-Mart that was titled "American Guns." It's a documentary, filmed partly at NRA museums, on the history of firearms in this country. I wasn't looking for it; just happened to see it, priced at $7.50. It runs four hours and some change, broken into 13 period-episodes. I haven't finished watching it, yet, but it's pretty good. It includes quite a bit of relevant American history to each gun-era.
