I recently purchased a Dan Wesson model 15 revolver. This has the adjustable sights with what to me is a large adjustment screw for windage on the rear sight, and a short barrel which has the internal barrel nut- i have been googling this and can't figure our for sure the answer to a couple of questions regarding this gun; can i interchange a barrel from a later model? Say a vent rib, very heavy barrel from a 15-2? Then, i see sales listings for grips for "small frame" revolvers? Is this referencing the difference between the .357 magnum frame and say a .44 magnum frame?
Thank you

Your questions can probably be answered at < http://www.danwessonforum.com/ > go to the FAQ tab where it explains barrel configurations.

I only own one Dan Wesson, also a model 15. Mine was used and very neglected with a 8 inch barrel. With CLP and some elbow grease I brought as much of the original finish out as I could. Original wood target grips were badly cracked so I replaced with Hogue Monogrip. I also bought a 4 inch barrel with heavy shroud from EWK Arms < http://www.ewkarms.com/ >that I haven't played with very much.

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine. With that 8 inch barrel it always draws attention at the range where I mostly shoot.

The early models were "pork chops" with a barrel extension below to mate to the frame but if I recall they had an external nut on the front of the barrel. I do not know how a later model barrel would work so should inquire at the DW Forum mentioned above. Often times the models of the 15 size (14,15,22, 32 and stainless versions) were referred to as small frames to distinguish from larger frame (44, 45, etc.). In reality it is a medium frame like a K frame, Six Series, etc. There was a small frame model made called the "Lil Dan" in .38 SP.

We can provide lots of help at The Dan Wesson Forum. A Dan Wesson small frame grip should work on your DW, and EWK Arms (found on the sidebar at DWF) does make an adapter to allow standard (non "PorkChop) barrel assemblies. That adapter shows as currently "out of stock", he will likely be making more in the near future.

Hope to see you on DWF-Steve
