Couple of days ago I was emptying my carry magazines for a 22. Many of the CCI stinger rounds would only fire after three repeat firing in strikes. The last one caused the ejector to take off for parts unknown. My guess it was a case head failure.

Has anyone else had similar issues

Nope, no problems with Stingers though I only had them for a Beretta Model 21 that I use to have.

Many years ago I had a Stinger round shed it's jacket or piece of the bullet in the barrel of a Marlin M60. The next round fired bulged the barrel - and it had a pretty heavy barrel). That experience soured me on Stingers and I haven't bought any since. I think they may have QC problems at the factory and the Stingers are overpriced anyway IMO. Standard velocity rimfire ammo works good enough for me. I do encounter rounds that did not get priming compound consistently applied around the rim but if the round is rotated and retried it will fire. This seems to be a common problem with all brands of rimfire. OP, I love your avatar. Walter Brennan was an American icon.

Like startup52 and brannockburn I have used .22 Stingers for years with no problems in four semi-auto rifles (Marlin 60, Remington 66, CBC 7022, AR-7 Explorer) and two pistols (Ruger MkII and Jennings J22). Mostly in the Marlin 60 and AR7.

I discontinued use in the Ruger MkII 6" barrel because the factory says the recoil velocity of the bolt is too sharp with Stingers.
On the other hand, with the 2" barreled J22 the Stinger is the best for reliable function and recommended by the factory.

Accuracy in the Charter Arms AR7 Explorer II pistol 8" barrel was very disapponting with the Stinger, but no other problems relatetd to ammo.

I suppose it would have been more helpful if I had kept a range book on date of purchase of ammo with notes on performance, in case others were having problems with different production lots.

I have a little Walter P-22 that is somewhat finicky, but I have never had a problem with Stingers in it.

Shot quite a few of them back in the 80's, and still have some now. Never had an issue with the ammo.

What I did have an issue with was a Jennings (1987-ish, Calwestco vintage) field-stripping itself during a run of Stingers. That's when (and how) I learned that hyper-velocity ammo is NOT recommended for that gun.

Stingers are my first choice and have been for years. I handload and only use CCI primers as until yesterday have never had a CCI of any kind fail to fire. The one failure was on one I am running a primer and bullet sealer test on and it had been submerged since 12-12-16. When I pulled the bullet and the powder was dry I knew the sealer had failed on the primer. I just started a thread on the test if anyone is interested. You must have gotten some rare stingers as Ive shot too many in the last 40 years of CCI rimfire never any doubt when I pull the trigger they have been outstanding. btw ive had failure to fires on every other brand of rimfire ammo ive shot with Remington leading the pack by half a lap.

I have never had a problem with Stinger ammo but truth be told I hardly use it any more. I switched the CCI Velocitor ammo long time ago. For those who don't know, the Velocitor is the same as Stingers but for a 40gr bullet instead if a 32gr bullet.

Shoot stingers in all my .22LR pistols & my 10/22. Never had a problem. Can't say that about any other brand though.
