A buddy (Ibmikey) left a Rossi lever action in 45 Colt with me last summer, and it's just been laying in a safe since. The rifle probably hasn't had 20 rounds fired through it since new, and then just at some hanging steel targets. On a whim yesterday, I decided to go out to my range and pop off some rounds out of a few guns, and grabbed the Rossi. I found a bag of ammo that I probably had loaded for a Saa sometime in the past and figured that would suffice. I left a note in the bag with the ammo that said 45 Colt, 250 Hornady HP, 14.5 Gr 2400 and figured that would be good enough for some casual plinking.
I set up at the bench and rested the rifle on a chunk of 2x6 laying there with no sand bag under the butt...since I didn't expect it to be a real test of accuracy anyway. I fired the first shot at a target at 50 yds. and couldn't really see where it was hitting with my naked eye, so I fired two more shots and got the binoculars on it. Needless to say....I didn't have to adjust the sights...

Good shooting Tex. I have a Rossi in 45 Colt and found it not as accurate as yours, probably the shooter. An ID 10 T issue I bet. I do like my Rossi and found it very reliable. It too is in 45 Colt.
 
How cool is that? The odds were more against you than with you. A picture is indeed worth a thousand words. Love it.
 
I am not surprised at the accuracy. I bought one in .357 and found it shoots tight groups like that....very nice shooting, though.

First time out, casual plinking with some handloads and nearly had all three shots touching in the bullseye...now that's mighty nice shooting!
 
Just bought one a week ago, haven't been to the range yet, hope I have similar results. I have posted another thread concerning the Rossi, header is Anyone know? If any of you is knowledgeable on these rifles, take a look and see if you can help me out. Thanks.

Remember that possession is nine points of the law (this has been debated in Texas courts in the past). As for the knife, it was assembled by an artisan in Solingen and the scabbard was made by a crafty old Texan...and neither person will knowingly admit to your ownership....so you might as well just be seeking out the hind faucet on a Texas sow.
On your next foray into Texas, we just might just have to arrange a shoot out to determine ownership.

Wish I could help you out, but I know very little about the Rossi rifles, other than the early ones sure had a lot of problems to address before they were accurate and reliable.
 
Thanks, Stony. I heard the same things about Rossi and was hesitant to even consider one, but saw alot of favorable comments about the newer ones here on the Highroad. It could use some minor polishing on the internals and maybe a spring kit to smooth it out some, but overall I'm pretty happy with it. Hope to get some range time in the next week or so.
 
The one I was shooting is a 16" barrel and pretty handy. I don't think I'd worry about stoning the internals unless I needed something super smooth for fast cowboy shooting or something like that. I think just working this one will smooth it out just fine as it's not bad as is.

Fine looking carbine there; looks exactly like mine! One thing you might want to do is wrap something around that saddle ring to keep it from scratching the receiver. The knife looks nice too and goes great with the Rossi.

I bought my Model 92 used but like new in the box. Don't think anything was done to it as it looked brand new, like it had just left the factory. Internals were smooth and slick running without any need to do anything else to the gun.

 
Love my RossI. I have two of them now, 44 Mag and 454 Casull. The 454 with some Ruger Only 45 Colt loads is my goto for short range varmints around the house lately. Extremely fun gun to shoot.
 
Bannockburn, All of my Winchester SRC's have a distinctive ring wear pattern on the receiver, I am one of those who belives a weapon showing a small amount of honest wear enhances the appearance greatly without reducing the operation of the weapon at all. After that 92 sees a scabbard for awhile it definitely will show wear marks.
 
I own two rossi 92's in 45 colt and I love mine one is a large loop and the other is a standard loop! I load and cast a 250gr lead bullet lubed with lee alox sized at .457 with talcum powder coated on the outside to keep dirt from attracting so bad. but with 6.8gr green dot powder they shoot really accurate groups! :)
 
I kinda regret selling this one, that I had been shooting in the carbine stages of a "Rifles of the West" competition.

It was plenty accurate enough to win..................when I did my part. :)

Always liked the look of the Rossi Model 92 short barrel rifle! Nice color case hardening on the receiver along with the addition of the tang peep sight too!

He left it here in a safe last summer for his use this summer when he returns....what transfer?
 
The last I recall, under CO law a transfer between two people wasn't verboten, but a third person made it a "Gun Show". o_O
.........one of a number or reasons I immigrated to a free state.
 
I've got the same rifle. Was shocked at the accuracy. I like 4227 with the Hornady 250 gr XTP Mag. It's been very effective on hogs. That's my camp gun. Handy, quick, accurate, hits hard.
