Anyone own a Ruger SR 22 if so what's the general opinion seen one today black slide with gray frame I believe the frame is toungsteen ?
Anyway thinking of picking it up as a trainer/plinking/target price was $339
Non threaded barrel will spend most it's time at indoor range hunting paper

I really have enjoyed my SR22. It has all the features you want to train new shooters how to handle a firearm, good sights, safety/decocker, slide catch/release, DA/SA hammer fired, nice trigger, easy, though odd, takedown. Good size, shape and weight for young shooters. Works best with HV ammo.

Another good choice for most of the above reasons is the Bersa T22. The Bersa isn't as reliable though as the Ruger. It must have HV ammo and take down and re-assembly is more difficult than the Ruger. My Bersa will often not cycle with standard velocity ammo and on occasion will leave a spent shell in the chamber.

The only downside I can find is having to stop every 10 rounds and reload. I've let other shooters try mine and most of them owned one in short order, that alone speaks volumes.

I'm like the rest of these responders, I love mine, so much fun to shoot and loaded with safety features.

wow seems like these are a big thumbs up !!
If it is still there and I pick it up I will post up a picture

One point.

If the one you looked at has a metal frame,,,
It's definitely not an SR-22.

The SR-22 pistol has a polymer frame.

The only problem I've had with mine is the front sight. The plastic they use is soft and it came boogered up in the dovetail from the factory. Eventually, it fell off while shooting. I tried reinstalling it, but the edges were too frayed. Then I tried getting a replacement from Ruger, back in the early days of the SR22, and they didn't have any available. Found a fiber optic sight on Amazon, and have been happy ever since.

It's a really fun little plinker and is excellent for a person with small hands. I bought the first one I saw and it has been trouble free.and has shot every ammo I loaded in it. There is a set of rubber feeling grip panels available for it that helps with the grip for larger hands. I think TandemKross is where I got mine

The SR22 is what everyone above says.

It is the one of the guns my wife wants to take to the range everytime. She likes shooting the 45 often. But in all, she likes the SR22 the best.

It is so easy to break down for cleaning too. 5 seconds, and it is apart.

I owned an SR22 for a few years and was tremendously disappointed with it, mostly because mine was unreliable (despite completely babying it) to varying degrees with just about anything other than mini-mags, and I tested sooo many kinds of ammo. Good ammo for me meant "only" one FTE on average every magazine, but usually I had multiple FTE's with every magazine. Took all the fun out of shooting .22, I'll never forgive it. Replaced it with a Walther PPQ .22 and the Q is so far superior to the SR22 it's not even funny. PPQ cycles everything I throw at it. Trigger is light years better. Ergonomics is light years better. Far better accuracy. 12 rounds instead of 10. I own many handguns and no upgrade I've ever made has been more significant to my shooting enjoyment than replacing that SR22 with a PPQ. Even if my SR22's reliability would have been better, the Q still outshines it. If your SR22 is reliable and you love it, well then...happy days for you, I guess.

I bought one about a year ago. When I bought it, I also was given a deal on a big box of Federal Match 22LR; which seems to FTE more than it cycles. I called Ruger and was told that it would only work with 1200 FPS ammo; which I told them I was using. Then they told me to try CCI 22LR. Anyway before buying one, check it out a little, as there seems to be others with similar stories to mine.

Yesterday, before I saw this thread, I asked to see a Ruger Mark IV, looking for a .22LR trainer for my wife and daughter-in-law. Too heavy. The guy said, “You don’t want that, try this -- SR-22.” Bingo! Impulse buy!

Love how it fits in my hand and I know it will fit my girls, too. Gal at the License bureau said, “We love SR-22s. Perfect for your wife and DIL.”

Be patient with your ammo choices... my SR22 is not particularly picky about ammo, but it does prefer some types over others. As has been said, zippy ammo works better than lower velocity stuff. As .22 pistols go, my SR22 is quite reliable, but it's definitely not the same standard as my Buck Mark of course. As for the fun quotient though.... no comparison. I usually shoot the SR22 just because it's fun.

Yeah, true, an SR22 is much lighter. And I also love the way it feels in my hand. But it's nowhere near as accurate as a Mark IV. I'm not sure the guy did you a favor.

berettaprofessor, if the guy had been selling me the Mark IV for MY use, you would likely be right. I want the girls to concentrate on technique, not lifting the gun.

Mark III Lite?

I had an SR -22 for awhile. Realized it was probably the only gun I had with a slide mounted safety (up to fire), so it really didn't work as a trainer for my family. I don't recall having any actual problems with it, it just didn't work for us.

I agree that the safety up to fire is not the best way to instill habit.

I do expect the SR-22 to be a quick stepping stone to a centerfire pistol. I have a delightful 9MM XDs that I think the women will like and be able to handle. The CZ-75B might be a tetch heavy. And I will offer them the .45 ACP 1911to try so they can make their own choices.

Wife loves her SR22, son also likes to shoot it. Great little pistol, always goes bang, no issues. Wife can put 30 out of 30 in a 10 ring on her CCW qualifying target.

Always goes shooting with us when we go plinking.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't care for it. I've shot my buddy's SR22 several times, and while it's a nice enough gun I don't think I'd ever own one over my Mark I or Buckmark (or a S&W Victory). I let my 8 year old daughter shoot the SR22 one day when my buddy was over. When she first picked it up she asked if I'd buy her one because of the light weight and small grip, but she only shot one mag out of it and put it down, uninterested in shooting it mire. The trigger pull was a tad much for her, and of course she wasn't nearly as accurate as she is with the Mark or the Buckmark.
