Is wearing a US Border Patrol cap legal?

Several of my friends and I have been wearing NYPD caps since 2001.

One of them lost a cousin in 911. The cousins wife supplied him with a dozen caps. I got one of them. None of us have ever had a problem.

USBP Caps have been popular for years. But check your state and local laws. Some states prohibit the wearing of such garments. The Wyoming Highway Patrol used to offer their caps. Wearing such caps can lead to altercations. Be aware.

I don't think that having uniforms is per se impersonation.

A few years ago the Seattle paper did a human interest story on the local shop that provided police and fire dept. uniforms. One segment went like this:

Reporter: Do you ever have people who aren't cops trying to buy uniforms?
ShopOwner: Sure. Sometimes it seems like they are up to no good and we send them packing, but we're happy to sell to the legitimate ones.
Reporter: What's a legitimate reason for a civilian to have a police uniform?
ShopOwner: Well, there are several reasons, but the most common are the strippers. We have a regular service to modify them with velcro seams and so on...
