Hiya Guy's :) .
I generally go by the rule "friends don't let friends use Tasco ", and I've never been tactikool nor did I get on board with holographic sights. Well, with that being said I just picked up a Tasco propoint Plus 1_11x45 illuminated red dot. A guy that I've done a bit of gun trading with hit me up because he was interested in the Vintage World War II 1911 grips that I had, for his new original GI mil-spec Auto-Ordnance 45 he picked up.

The grips were $100 at Sam's Locker in Boise, but I got them as a bonus with the Llama Max 1 45 I picked up recently. Anyway, this is an older model red dot that he bought new for $200 awhile back, put it in his safe and never got around to using it, so, it's still new in the box . I ended up trading him my 1911 grips, a 1911 magazine and a box of 9mm shells for it.

Anyway this thing is all aluminum and it looks a lot nicer than the newer plastic holographic sights that I've seen a lot of guys around here using, so I thought I'd ask y'all about it. Anybody used or still have one of these ?.

I remember those being pretty well respected back in the 90s early 2ks....

Ive had a few tasco red dots but not that specific model. All of the. Work just fine, and ive had them on everything from .22s to slug guns.

Alright, I did a Google Search and some reading up on a number of gun boards, and apparently I got damn lucky with this red dot this morning. This isn't the PDP 2 or 3, this is the PDP 5CMP. Apparently these were made in Japan back when Tasco was still Tasco before they went out of business, and they were apparently the best Red Dot Tasco made. Now they're sought after & worth more now than they were when they were new. It has four different settings to change the size of the dot, and 11 settings to adjust its brightness. I prefer conventional glass that's made in Japan when I can find them because they're nice high quality Optics. So I'm guessing this is the same and much better than any of the garbage coming out of China these days.

i have found them to be hit or miss, the same with their scopes. the trouble with older optic,s-red dots is if they go bad they have no warrenty or customer service. i have several and use them on low recoil firearms. the one i like best is a ultra dot made by oakshore electronic sights inc and has been on several high power rifles and a turkey shotgun. it is small, lightweight and takes common batteries(CR-2032). eastbank.

I've had one for years. Work just fine :)

Tasco 2000's were the micro-Red Dot to have for years. They were on all sorts of big hard hitting pistols in competition. I still have one that is close to 20 years old on an 06 bolt rifle.

Tasco had a contract with the US Army to build 10X fixed tube sights for Tanks. I have one. It's as durable as a rock. But you need windage and elevation adjustable bases for it ...

Point being Tasco knows how to make good stuff. They know how to write a production contract and monitor it. But you need to do your part and ask... Because some of their stuff is not good.

The one you have should be fine :)
