Yanno,,,
I've never understood that,,,
Finding a bunch of arrowheads in one spot.

Was their some Indian named Geronimo Arrowhead-seed just tossing them around?

My uncle's property in central Oklahoma had a creek and small wash on his property,,,
As kids we used to go to the sand wash with our shovels and sand strainers,,,
On a good day we would find as many as a dozen if we dug enough.

I have a friend who is an archeologist,,,
He doesn't have a good explanation either.

What's the name of the creek?? I'm not interested in actually going there, I'm just curious as to the name of it is all. I've heard that if the creek has an Indian or old name it will typically have arrowheads. Also, they say that you can find a lot of them on top of or around large bluffs that are shielded by the weather from the west/north and that give a view of the surrounding areas.....ya'know, places they would have lived? lol

We had a hunting lease in Alabama that had a 2 acre area covered with arrowheads. About 80% were quartz and the rest were chert. Very seldom did we find a perfect one and it usually was in a different spot. We surmised that the 2 acre spot was the site of a village and that the flawed/cracked arrowheads were just tossed aside as they were being flaked. A few were rose quartz like yours.

It's pretty cool that I have taken 2 or 3 whitetail archery bucks within 1/4 mile of where I found these arrowheads .
My avatar buck was maybe 700 yds away.
It gives me a sense that the stone age wasn't that long ago......relatively speaking, of course.

Nice work Armored Farmer. Maybe you will have a new hobby now, searching
for Indian arrowheads. I have a friend that lives over in N.J.. He has thousands
of arrow heads that he has found over a life time of collecting. Every one of them
was free.

Yep, believe someone was there before you! Nice find.

Found all of these in one day....digging in an old campsite at the headwaters of Bull Creek (Austin, Texas) mid 70's

My Aunt owned the property.

Its really quite amazing the sheer number of artifacts some places hold.

That salmon colored one is just plain pretty. Guys left their arrowheads in one area like a modern day reloading room? What are the odds. Very cool.

I knew to look in this area because the a farmer had his sons sift the property next door. They found buckets full of artifacts. I have seen them.

I'm pretty certain that digging for artifacts is illegal....you can pick it up from the surface, but you can't dig.

I think that depends on the state. We had a major drought in Oklahoma about 8 years ago. Lake levels dropped dramatically. People were all over the lakes and creeks with shovels and buckets looking for arrowheads. No one (that I know of) got any tickets. Many fields around our rivers over here get plowed and tilled. People walk them every year looking for arrowheads. And they find them.

Varies State to State. In Texas (where I live) it is illegal to take or posses any artifacts from State or Public Land. You may do as you wish on private property (where I collected mine).

It is illegal here on BLM or Taylor Grazing Leases. It is a dumb law. Most every significant archaeological find has been by private citizens. And who is going to ignore an artifact on the surface?o_O
