Well I pulled the trigger on one. I didn't know what to expect for $12 but this thing is sharp. The phrase scary sharp comes to mind. I think if I shaved I could shave with it

Mora makes great value knives. A few years ago I got a deal on a box of the old 710 models. I keep one in my backpack, truck glove box, fishing boat, etc
My great grandfather was a Swedish immigrant from the region where the knives were historically made. I still have one that belonged to either him or my grandfather. It's stuck in a beam in the barn next to where I cut twine from hay bales and cut open feed bags.

Mora's are great knives and even better values. I have a few, including a companion, that often go with me over more expensive knives.

I bought a few Mora knives for skinning deer . They were very sharp , but dulled before i finished skinning the first deer . I can usually skin about 4 before I have to sharpen my Buck 110 . They are easy to resharpen though , faster than the Buck .

Out of curiosity which steel did you have?

If the Buck is 420 then it is 420HC with the Paul Bos special heat treat to optimize the performance.

I think it just has the basic steel that Buck uses , I only paid $19.95 for the knife on sale at BP about 10 years ago .

I have a Mora companion in stainless and carbon steel, I like them both.
I took the stainless on four dives while on Kauai and I rinsed and dried after each dive, but the razor fine edge did not hold up.

I bought something like ten Mora's just before this last Christmas. I kept a few and gave the rest away for Christmas presents, I haven't heard any complaints from the "users"...

I bought them because I've had good luck with the ones I bought previously, and I still like them a LOT.

I did run a flat file on the "back" of a couple of the cheaper Mora's, so they will work with a fire stick...

I've had this one since my first trip to Sweden, $7 in 1970, Mora Fishing Classic #54. Great knife, always sharp, and it held up to many years on my salt water boat. Try that with Chinese stainless. lol A little pricey now for a Mora, but not many knives would hold up to rough use for almost 50 years. Ragnar Forge currently has it for $51.

Still have it, and recently treated it to a cleanup and re-stained and oiled the handle. It's this one: https://varuste.net/en/Mora+Fishing+Classic+54?_tu=42036

BJq1rAagqEq.jpg I have the utmost respect for the Mora Companion. It's a blade I've thrashed on and it has the scars to prove it. I bought it to teach my Daughter proper use of a knife and camping skills, so we have thumped on it.

My first observation is the ease of sharpening. I have the sharpmaker, and with a few licks on the fine stone it's scary sharp again. Second, the sheath is decent for the price, it's very functional and easy to take on and off. Lastly, the grind is great for a variety of tasks from food prep to fire making. Even though it's not full tank, it's a beast of a blade.

It has given me many memories, so the value to me is much more than the 12 dollar price tag:

I recently bought the hd orange model. I like it! It came wicked sharp. I used to make my first bow drill and it works great. Was easy to sharpen too. I just wish it had a sharper spine for a ferro rod. I like the sheath too. Great deal for under $20.

Moras are about the best bang for your buck if you are looking for an all around fixed blade knife.
Not alot that can compete at that price point.

Buck uses 420HC stainless on their basic 110 model and it has an excellent heat treat.
They really hold an edge.
Also a great knife for the money.

i bought this MORA fixed blade #PIC 539 some years ago for a dollar at a garage sale and was impressed with how sharp it was, it is now my patch cutting knife for my muzzle loaders. i push the ball down to flush with the muzzle and cut the excess patch cloth off with it. eastbank.
