S&W 27-1 High grade shooter value?

Big tubby, from what I saw, that's a really nice weapon!

$350! LOL! Do you have one for sale at that price? I'd buy it.

For the gun in question I'd guess anywhere from $500 to $700 depending on the seller. Maybe higher if the seller was trying to get top dollar.

The photos make the finish look funny to me. Most likely from wiping with an oily gun rag?

I would guess somewhere in the neighborhood of $600 to $700, depending on how well the mechanicals check out and how the bluing looks after a thorough cleaning.

Read his screen name. Maybe he doesn't like Smiths. You didn't ask what it's worth, you asked what would "you" give for it and got fair answers. I think others have correctly pegged the value at $500 to $700. But I would only give $350 because that would be a smoking deal and I already spent this month's firearms allowance.

I agree with those who have said $700-$800.

Considering the rarity of a dash 1 to a collector because they were only made for one year (1960), market price will be quite a bit higher. Trust me.

I'd offer $450 if I were negotiating a deal. It's got a number of cosmetic challenges that would keep it from bringing top dollar.

To me the fact that it's a 6" (or 6.5") barrel would interest me a lot less than the finish flaws, but it would probably be tagged in the $750.00 range...maybe a bit more at my LGS.

A little Flitz, a little elbow grease, some "Ren Wax", and it would look like a totally different gun.

I'd value it in the 'try for 450, settle for 550' range.
Correct stocks for it will run a couple bills. You might point that out
along with the incorrect (raised top edge from the photo?) sideplate removal.

Agree with CB that it would be tagged at least 700 in any shop.
At the end of the day guns of that quality, even with the finish and
parts issues this one has, do sell.

A dozen of us have spent your money now.

Absolutely agree with 243winxb that the best photos are taken in natural
shaded sunlight, at least for a camera hack like myself.

If you paid $600 for it then that is the most accurate value of the gun... would you have bought it if it was priced at $850? I'm guessing not.

The vintage S&W 27 market is actually High end. The Mdl. 27 no dash is about $200 dollars more than a S&W 27-1 and maybe $400 more than the S&W 27-2. The S&W 27-2, 3.5" was the Flag Ship of S&W for years.

My old S&W 27-2 3.5" has been a favorite of mine for years.

A 6" M27 starts at about $900 is Guns International. Most are listed at ~ a grand and up though. $1500ish for one with target trigger and hammer with the same kind of minor wear as yours.
A great deal depends on where you are though. Prices vary from place to place.

The S&W and Colt markets are about the same across the U.S. It seems to find a deal these days is difficult. Everyone has a computer so the prices are close.

I'm not too concerned about dashes, but I'd love to find a 3.5" 27-X.

They look just like a scaled-up snub M19.

I don't know where you got that? The Pre 27 was followed by the 27. The 27-1 first change. That was the thread pitch on the extractor rod. Yes nice S&W pre change revolvers are more valuable.

Gotboostv, Glad you liked the picture of my old S&W 27-2 3.5". It came from the Weber County Utah sheriffs Dept in the 1980s. The Department went to the Wonder 9MM autos and they sold off the S&W 27 .357 revolvers. I bought it at a gun show inOgden, Ut. for $175 dollars around 1988 I think.
