Eleven months after my wife convinced me to visit the Kimber booth at the 2016 NRA show, I am finally on the range with their Kimber K6s revolver. The CCW world has been void of a 6 shot capacity revolver for a very long time. The last 6 shot CCW revolver was the Colt Detective Special which was discontinued around about 1995 and no one else has attempted this since. Today I fired 75 rounds of ammunition 38spl and 357Magnum through this revolver without any malfunctions. All groups were shot at 20 yards from a sand bag rest and both with 38 and 357 groups were consistent of 3 to 5 inches.

The KimberK6S 4 main features are a concealed carry revolver with 6 shots, adjustable sights, a completely dehorned revolver and the smoothest trigger I have felt on a CCW revolver.

The recoil of the Kimber K6S was actually very manageable. The 6 shot cylinder sports 6 recessed chambers along with flat sides instead of flutes, it has serrated black sights with the rear adjustable for windage. The trigger on the K6S is so smooth I would have thought it was half the trigger weight advertised. My RCBS trigger guage confirmed 8 1/2 pound double action pull. Kimber also changed the cylinder release, instead of the normal forward-sliding cylinder release, the K6s’ is a push button similar to the magazine release on a semi-auto pistol. Kimber also went non traditional on the cylinder, instead of flutes it features flats.

Caliber .357 Magnum
Barrel Length 2″
Overall Length 6.62″
Height 4.46″
Width 1.39″
Weight (unloaded)
1.44 lbs (23 oz)
Sights black pinned front, black dovetail rear
Action double action only
Ammo Capacity 6
Advertised trigger pull weight 9.5-10.5 lbs

Nice report. I love mine and agree, the K6S is the only revolver in my safe that will never need a trigger job. It has replaced my 640Pro as my daily carry. One more hint. If you take the HKS #10 speedloader and sand the thick areas (a few seconds on a belt or disc sander) the shape will somewhat mimic the shape of the K6S cylinder giving it clearance needed to work properly. I even tapered the leading and trailing edges a bit.Opbiously not for competition but this allows me to easily load the gun before daily carry. Otherwise I use speed strips.

Nice review. I finally got to handle one the other day at a shop and it felt really nice. The trigger felt great for a factory trigger and I probably would not mess with it if I end up picking one up. I just couldn't bring myself to pay what they were asking. My only concern with it is the cylinder release being different than all of my Smiths. Did you do any speed reloads and did you find the different cylinder release to require different muscle memory or was it fairly intuitive?

It is fairly intuitive but I have done speed reload drills with a Ruger Speed Six. The one thing I did notice is if you hit the release as if you are going to push it forward like the S&W hitting it in the rear will depress and cause the cylinder to release.

Thank You. I am a Smith guy mainly because that is what I learned to shoot with. I have tried other brands but only a few of them are still in the safe. I think the K6s might just find its way into my safe.

Awesome snap a few pictures, which version did you get? My cabelas had all 4 editions in stock when I stopped by there on Friday. Almost wish I would have waited for the 3 dot night sight version :) A video will be going up tonight I shot some 357Magnum Leverevolution across the chronograph, it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated.

I bought the basic version. "A gun is tool, Marian".

It's for backup. I use a semi auto that is just a little but larger for primary carry,

Based upon having shot one with full power 357 Magnum, I would say the recoil is manageable, provided one is shooting 38 Special. Dang!

I see no evidence of the sights being adjustable in any model variation.

My local Cabela's has two under glass. I'm really tempted by them, but since I just made a recent poor financial decision that is headed to my FFL dealer already, it's going to be awhile.

I may never own one. It would be really redundant, and there are other guns I want more. But I sure am jealous of you guys that have one already.

You could rest easier if seeking out a chance to shoot one. When you admire someone else's gun at the range, I find it is common to be offered a chance to shoot it.

Yes, and I've done the same many times with friends, and once with a stranger on a public range. However, I typically shoot out in the woods, and not at a managed range. So renting or having the chance to shoot one is slim for me.

I'm guessing the K6S will kick the same as any small framed 357. I'd like one, but it hasn't even necessarily made the list.
