I am considering replacing the barrel on my old Rem. 700 PSS, 308 caliber.
It is of course the heavy barrel about .82" at muzzle.
Can anyone give me their preferences and experiences on what brand, material, barrel length, etc.?

I am considering a 26" tube in stainless steel. I have very experienced rifle builder already; just looking for recommendations.
Thanks.

Dan Lilja makes a fantastic product. Mk13 style 3 groove 10" twist for $355, yes please. I ordered one for my 700 the other day, can't wait to see it.

I have 3 barrels I would recommend in order; 1-broughton, 2-bartlein, and 3 kreiger... would also consider a lilja

Thanks for your reply. Lilja was definitely on my short list. Is 3 groove new? The factory barrel looks like more than 3.

I don't know if it's new but it's not what you'll find in most factory barrels. They claim that 3 groove fouls slower than 5 or 6 groove rifling. Take that with a grain of salt, as it could be marketing hype.

3 groove match barrels have been around since the 1960's.

Kreiger and Bartlien barrels are most popular for match rifles.

4, 5 and 6 groove barrels chambered for .308 Win have done well with bullet weights 168 grains and heavier.

4 groove ones seem best for lighter weight bullets. This was not well understood until Sierra's 155 grain bullets were first used in competition.

Barrel length matters little regarding accuracy. Long enough to shoot bullets fast enough for your application counts most. As does rifling twist. A 1:12 twist in a 26" barrel is a good compromise for 150 to 200 grain bullets through 800 yards.
