Howdy Fellas,
Yesterday afternoon I took a much needed 45 minute retreat to the garage. I hadn't rolled any fresh ammo since the birth of my second child over 7 months ago. After double checking my manual/notes, I methodically set my block up with some primed .38 brass. Sadly, there were less than 50 pieces ready to go and about an equal number of MBC 158gr .38 Match projectiles. After loading what I had set up, I scrounged around my bench looking for more empty revolver brass... alas it is ALL LOADED! :what:

Looks like I need to set up a range appointment for some "group therapy", and then put in an order to MBC. We still get a deal there right? Suppose it is a good problem to have jugs of powder and cartons of spare primers.

In four to six years, it'll be nice having an extra little range helper retrieve brass. ;) As fun as children are, kids tend to eat up any and all free time.

A man has to have something he enjoys and range time fit's my bill. Welcome back. Congrats on the new baby!

It wont be long and you will be buying more guns. Keep that in mind. A fund set up for that will come in handy later. I have 8 grand kids that are keeping me broke.
I have sold off some pretty high dollar safe queens to get little .22s and some light shotguns. What used to be fine on single stage presses is no longer and the Dillon dies are increasing. I have a Magma caster and Start luber so I have to fire that up now and then too.
It is all just starting for you now. Happy times ahead. Keep em shooting and they wont do drugs.
They will beg to shoot and hunt. Oh and some fishing poles may be in order too.
Have fun.

I don't like to think of myself as old but my youngest is 23. The time it goes quickly. You are lucky that your able to spend at least a little bit of time at the range.

When the kiddos were little I really didn't have much in the way of resources to spend and not much spare time for the shooting sports. I did a little backyard trap and made my shot shells with a Lee shotshell loader. I have no feelings of nostalgia with respect to that press and if I ever get back to making shotshells I will buy a MEC before I get into it. Good that your able to enjoy your firearms and handloading equipment.

I agree with Wildfire, fishing poles and tackle are the thing with kids.

Thanks for the warm response fellas. Hey Wildfire, I blew some of my 'gun fund' on a Ruger 10/22 Takedown about 6 months after those were introduced. Part of my thinking was "This will be enjoyable and the kids can have it later." After seeing my coworker's kid blow through ammo in their's I'm tempted to start the girls out on single-shot bolt actions (just like all of us were). Nothing ruins fundamentals more than spewing through 25 rounds of rimfire ammo. Gotta make every shot count!

10/22s are cool. We have several. Check out the little Thomson center single shots too. Easy and accurate. Kids can have a hard time pulling that bolt back sometimes. I have a Chip monk and it has survived many kids. But, the bolt was hard for them to pull back. A leather string around the bolt helped them.
The Thompson's are easier.

Bama Drifter, you can get a magazine for that 10/22 that only holds 1 rd. Then as they get older, they can graduate to the 10 rd. :)

Oh, cool. I was under the impression only CZ and maybe Savage offered a single shot "sled" for their guns. Will def look into it.

Edit: With the help of my mother-in-law, I was able to break away to garage again this afternoon. While throwing out a bunch of "potential ammo storage" containers (empty soup tubs, random plastic trays, etc.) I stumbled upon a trove of cleaned & prepped brass!!! Rejoice! I was able to prime about half a hundred pieces before the inevitable text message summoned me back inside to help M-I-L with cranky baby. Hooray for little victories and an understanding mother-in-law... ;)
