Join the NRA. I don't agree with all of their stands but without the NRA, after what happened at Sandy Hook, you would not have the freedoms or firearms you have.

Of course I don't know your situation, 1KPerDay, but instead of paying for annual and 5-year memberships for the past 40 some odd years, the wife and I would have been a heck of a lot better off to buy lifetime memberships 20 years ago.
It's a rather sad commentary on the situation, but I can remember when my dad joined the NRA because the Washington politicians were making noise about gun control. That was in the '60s, not too long after JFK was shot. And that's how long I've been watching and listening to this nonsense about "gun control." Which has never been about guns in the first place - it's about control.

Yes back in the 1960s prior to the JFK assinanation we had only 50,000 members. We were primarily a shooting Org. We were the only ones to stand up to the the Liberal move to restrict scopes handguns etc. We lost some battles. We had a small membership and no money.
We all enjoy our gun rights today. Why, because 5 Million Americans stand together and protect millions of our members and those who are not members.

Money will loosen up when we lose our gun rights, and we don’t have to buy that expensive ammo.

Come on it’s a lousy 35 bucks. We might not agree with everything they say and do, but they are at least trying to look out for us.

You don't have to be an NRA member to be an NRA instructor. I know quite a few people who are instructors specifically for Scouts and have never been NRA members. Where are you going to be doing your training?

I am an Endowment Member and have been for many decades. I am very interested in what you disagree with concerning the NRA?

Yes, come join the NRA. I was an annual member for many years till I woke up, and upgraded to a Life membership. Just be aware, the $$$ generated from membership dues, does not support their many programs. I don't always agree with some of their decisions, but it's the best representation in DC available. Donate often.

Yes, by all means, join! I agree with the posts above & if you are still young and can afford the $, purchase a lifetime membership. It is better to have a voice where one is needed than not one at all!!!

The NRA is no different than anything else. Its impossible for eveyone to totaly agree with everything done but they are still our best bet. I also pay dues to GOA every year and don't always agree with their take on things.

The fact that the gun grabbers hate the NRA so much makes it a great reason to join. I am a lifetime member and feel they represent us well enough that the left despises us. That is worth the price of admission.

DD2 is correct. Most of the other programs are supported by the NRA Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit charitable organization. The 'Non-Political' part of the NRA. Funds are raised through the Friends of NRA banquets held throughout the country. http://www.friendsofnra.org

1 year is only $30 right now 5 years is $100, pretty cheap. I doubt there will be any substantial discounts until we get closer to the next election.

OP- sorry I don't know of any current discounts.
But they do offer a pay buy quarter life membership. I started that way, think it was $35 every three months. And the total was $750. Did that for a couple years then just paid it off. A couple years back they had a lifetime membership available for maybe $250?? May have even been less, not sure at the moment.
Once you are a member, upgrade discounts come out here and there. I believe my upgrade from Life to Endowment was only $200.
You don't have to agree with everything the NRA does, but without them we would have less gun rights today.
You can donate to the ILA, those donations are used to fight anti gun legislation.

Glad you joined. Life membership is the best option, and I've been a life member since 1967. It was cheap then, and in another 40 years the current price will seem cheap.

To address one point, one reason they are the target of so many gun control groups is because they are the most effective, and the loudest voice, in support of gun rights. I see that as a very good thing for us.

I don't know what the Boy Scouts want for instructor credentials but those NRA Instructor courses are rather expensive.

You don't even have to be an NRA member. I'm not a high volume Amazon shopper, but I always go to the SMILE site if what I'm getting is available there. Its been good for getting parts to keep our A/C system up and running and the occasional gun part!

The NRA First National Bank VISA affinity card is another good way to support them without pain -- I put all my recurring charges on it -- medicare part D, drug purchases, etc. It adds up! I can afford to not get the 1-2% "cash back" other cards offer.

Edit, I also "double dip" by paying for my Amazon SMILE purchases with my NRA affinity card.

Jim so correct. My Certified Handgun Instructors cost over $1,000 dollars 20 years ago. That includes travel etc. The Boy Scout programs are very active in Utah.
