Armi San Marco .36 caliber

An ASM is indeed a shootable revolver. Through the years, some were made with weaker internal part's than others but you can modify a Pietta part to take its's place.

The conversion cylinders come with a warning that they cannot be used in a brass frame and folks who like to use maximum BP charges seem to have problems with brass frames but I think normal BP charges are OK in them.

I use T7 and its great for me... Just drop 15% for the equivalent of BP.

One thing few folks mention, its probably a good idea to load off gun for the older brassers... Have seen loose arbors that seem like they where almost pulled loose by loading too tight a ball.

Shrugs.. Just my opinion, but I LOVE the old ASM's... Why chance it? And that Mason Dixon??? Cant ever replace that if something goes wrong!

That being said... I dont think 15grs can stretch even a brass frame can it?? Dont reckin youd really NEED much more then that for .36 would ya? Heck.. If ya pushed it up to 20grs that little ball would FLY.. and even that doesnt seem TOO excessive for that frame, even though I doubt I would shoot that much very often if it where mine...

I really don't know for sure? I did have a brass frame years ago and it did not last long. Some claim that they are OK. Maybe with BP and no T/7 it might be OK?
I only use goex in my guns so hopefully it wont hurt my brass 44c but if it does all well i'll hang it up on the wall but I do wanna get a 51' navy in the period correct caliber in 36c as I own a brass and steel 44c 51' navy's :)

on Dixie gun works they said to use 18grs in the 36's so what do ya'll use? plus I use goex only!!

Thanks guys good sound advise. I believe I need it. I am a fan of the ROAs. Iike to load heavy and shoot often. The 1996 ASM will likely get a new home unfired.:)

I dont have one myself, but I think thats for a brass frame .36??? Of course it isnt going to HURT it to drop down to 15 if youre happy with that...

The steal framed ones can handle all the powder you care to stuff in em, though that may or may not be the most ACCURATE.

Where money no object I'd have me one of those .50 ROA's on my hip at all times.. Maybe two of em... And a short barreled one in a shoulder holster... And an Avenging Angel cut down one in an IWB.. And... So on and so forth LOL

Here is an unfired ASM Mason - Dixon on GB:

Way overpriced and not even an 1862. The 1862 Navy looks like a slightly smaller 1860 Army. This is another fantasy gun which is an 1851 Navy with Mason Dixon stamped on the barrel. I don't really mind them producing fantasy guns but when they try to pass them off as something they are not it is just wrong in my book.

Things are worth what someone is willing to pay for them.

Watch this auction and see what it goes for to get an idea of the real value.

GunBroker has a way of looking at completed auctions under "Advanced Search" which allows you to see what folks have actually paid for the style you are interested in, not just what sellers are asking.

Sadly they do not archive these completed auctions for too long or this would be a great help to researchers.

These Mason Dixon ASM's do not come on the market very often so you would have to keep your own record of their winning bids.

I have little interest, (doesn't add value to me) in most of the commemorative or tribute type revolvers. However there are folks that do, so they can have them if they want to pay for them, that is fine with me. I generally consider their markings graffiti and would value them more if it were gone.
However that said, I have 5 ROA's from 1976 that are marked "MADE IN THE 200th YEAR OF AMERICAN LIBERTY" on the barrel and curiously, they are some of my favorites (and I treasure those markings). It is quite likely that I wont part with them until I'm looking up at the ground. Go figure.

Just to add..well.. Nothing to the conversation (LOL), here is the other side of the commemorative coin- A Vermont Statehood Dragoon going for $5000, a buy it now price of $7500, and a claim that it was issued for $12,500.. Those Mason Dixons aint looking so bad now LOL!

If the original MSRP was $12.5K, it seems to have lost a bit of value. ;) Good for the buyer, bad for the market.

It appears to be a very well done piece but an owner won't shoot it (let alone turn a cylinder), it is for coffee table display, and no one outside of Vermont will be interested in it, unless someone is flush with cash and collecting the series. That is like someone collecting a full set of Morgan silver dollars MS-68+. Damned near impossible.

I have no hand in this poker game...

A beautiful revolver to be sure (and a "real" bargain at $7500!), but at that price it would never see the light of day; buried deep inside the dark confines of one of my gun safes.

Now let's see, what did I do with my checkbook...
