I just saw the banner ad on this very web sight. Looks like the saga is not over.

http://www.fostersettlement.com/home/faqs/#q6

1. Received a refund: Already enrolled (unless you have moved in which case you must contact them): Receive $22.50 voucher towards a new EOTech product.
2. Want to keep your optic: $25-$50 settlement. Must enroll
3. Want a refund: Refund + $22.50 voucher. Must enroll.

As someone who actually experienced a major POA shift in the Arizona summer and who got my refund, I want to know if they have solved their problems. Everything else about the optic was great and I'd like to support the company.

Still have my 512.A65 on my rifle.......I understand there were problems and the CAS.....but what exactly were the problems with the sight ?

The new 600 series is supposed to have Temperature POI shift compensation. Early interviews say it remembers the temp at which it was zeroed and you have a choice between long battery life and POI shift compensation modes. It that code for "there is a heater and thermostat in the thing"? 6 CR123s! That's about 8-9 Amp-hours of battery!

I'm not sure how it is compensating but it looks like it is compensating for something ;)

Only 8 days to go. :D

.....so how exactly by looking through my Eotech would I know If my sight is defective ?
You wont know just by looking through it. It 's my understanding that they were all defective.
I guess you could put your gun in the freezer overnight and then check the POA.

.....so then it's just a matter if you own one send it back.....I heard they weren't all bad.
I thought it was all of them but maybe not. If I remember correctly, there is a form on their website to fill out. It was a voluntary recall when I sent mine back, I think it still is.
I never liked the one I had much anyway, aside from the POA issues. My intent was to replace it with an Aim Point but then I read good things about the Primary Arms Micro Dot so I bought one. It was about $200 with the mount, so far I like it.

If this is real, its pretty much a given... Buy an eotech= swap forend. Their battery mags don't clear a standard for end. This will stick over for sure

EOTech sold faulty sights either knowingly or due to poor testing and QC.
They continued to sell them after the issue was well known.
EOTech's parent company L3 Communications allocated 26 million to deal with potential law suits related to the problem.
Many of the faulty sights had been sold to our military, placing our soldiers at risk.
I see no reason to support EOTech.

The voluntary refund program ended last week, according to their website. The class action lawsuit has a refund option as well and that is open until May 23rd according to the ad banner I just saw here on THR and the site it links to.

I've had one of the 5.56 BDC EOTechs (discontinued several years ago, but it worked for me especially with a magnifier) for more than a few years but didn't get around to thinking, "I should return it," until literally the day after the voluntary recall ended. D'oh.

I just found out about the Eotech 'problems'. Bought mine in July 2015, put it on my rifle, sighted it in and forgot about it. Of course, I found out about the problem too late to send it in to Eotech and I'm pissed that I got no notice from them being as I was registered with them. I called them today and talked with someone in tech support. Not surprisingly they assured me that there was no real issue. He asked where I lived, Oregon, and then told me all I need to do is sight my weapon in during "normal" temps, like in the Spring around 60F or so. Having done that I'll have no problems using the weapon in very hot or very cold weather. I'm not excited about having a potentially ineffective Eotech on my rifle as it's primarily a home-defense and SHTF weapon. I haven't checked into the class action suit and how to proceed with that but don't expect I'll get anywhere near the $550 that I paid for it. Has anyone looked into sending in to the lawyers and how that might work out?

Got their class action settlement card in the mail yesterday. Do they really expect that $22.50 voucher toward the purchase of their products to be worth anything? All I could buy is some of their promotional gear from their online store, LOL. I think that this is a way to get the dollars covered without the company ever expecting to pay but a small fraction of the settlement.

May file a separate claim and see if they would offer something worthwhile.

.

I mailed my 512 back last week via the settlement claims form which is open for a bit longer. I purchased it maybe a year ago and had immediate problems. It shut itself off after about 5 rounds through a shotgun. looking online, i saw all the trouble they were having with SOCOM. I was pretty surprised and also pretty angry when i found out that they would not refund at the time, only repair. So i mailed mine back, they reworked the battery connections, and sent it back to me. After that, it would drain a battery in a day, even in the off position. I went through several sets of batteries and each time it came out of the safe after a few days of being off, the battery was dead. I finally filled out the settlement stuff and sent it back. Who knows how long the turnaround time is, but I want nothing to do with Eotech.

If L3 or Eotech management took some cost-cutting steps to improve profits at the expense of dudes overseas relying on them, I am done with that company.

Yeah, I am on the fence right now, my sight works fine (as far as battery life goes) and I don't plan to shoot in extreme hot or cold, so I'd likely never experience the POI shift, but I don't like knowing I bought an inferior product.

There is a Class Action Suit over the issues with Eotech products. The lawyers will eat up all the cookies and you may or may not get a crumb.

Hanzo581 is correct. I just filed my paperwork and sent in my Eotech product. One option is to request the full MSRP. The paperwork is simple, just check the correct block(s) and fill in the blanks. They even give the info needed such as what the MSRP was in each year. Don't even need the bill of sale. The $22.50 and several other options appear to apply to those customers who had previously sent their product in for repair. That seems odd if the product still doesn't perform to standards.

I don't think the lawyers need to get their fees out of any of the lawsuit money because it has already been voluntarily settled and their fees should already be paid aside from what the consumer is due.

I'll post any replies. I had previously made my complaint by email several years ago and was told to "standby". Obviously, the case was in litigation at that time. However, they never sent a notice to me. Found it in one of my magazines. Don't delay there is a deadline. Read the info in www.fostersettlement.com MapMan
