Alvin York memorial shoot

I think you can use a Ruger in some of the revolver matches, but not all. My main focus has been on N-SSA and the International events. I'm booked solid.

In NMLRA National & Territorial Championship Matches, the Ruger Old Army can be shot in the regular (open) Revolver Aggregate. We also have an "An-Issued Revolver" Aggregate, which requires any percussion revolver manufactured up to (and including) 1865 or a replica thereof. A Ruger Old Army would be denied entry in the "As-Issued Revolver Aggregate.

Individual Chartered Clubs usually follow the guidelines of the National Aggregates.

Here is a picture of my buddies and I at the three forks of the Wolf river, Pall Mall, Tennessee. Home of Alvin York memorial shoot.
We were fortunate to meet and shoot with Alvin's grandson James York. He was very friendly and generous with his time. We visited with him for quite a while. He also offered to let my group use his loading table as we were a bit crowded on the one we brought. We gladly accepted his offer. He was not only a gentleman, but also a marksman, like his grandfather. Jim York is a past champion of the event.
We enjoyed fair and warm weather despite a few sudden gusts of wind that added a bit of difficulty to the event. The wind was enough to occasionally topple a target stand and call a temporary cease fire until the targets were put in order.
My gear performed well and I had no problems or worries during the event.
I feel fortunate to have shot well enough to place 27th in the field of 186, good enough to win a pork loin prize.
The match was held on the York farm in the same field that Alvin had shot matches in during his lifetime. It is a beautiful country with steep wooded hills with sandstone outcroppings and narrow green valleys and swift, clear streams. This is a isolated, rural area with no nearby towns of any size.
I would love to be able to visit the area again next year and participate in the annual event.

I didn't want to bring this point up but I think you were a little overmatched using your hunting rifle against those guys and their 'Chunk' or 'Over the log' rifles.

I wish I had taken better pictures. I am waiting for my buddies to send me theirs to see if they captured any pics of those custom chunk guns. They have such long heavy barrels that the have to stand on stools to load them! All of the 'real' chunk gun shooters seemed to have under-hammer percussion guns. Percussion guns were 3:1 over flintlock guns.

I've seen them at a couple of shoots and they are highly specialized rifles for that kind of shooting. A hunting rifle is hard pressed when matched up against them but you did well with your hunting rifle. Are you going back next year?
