Is it just me, or is the magazine on my gun fixed in place with red Loc-Tite? If so, then that's a dirty trick on Mossberg's part. Is there any way around this, besides buying a second shotgun with a shorter magazine tube on it?

Sounds like you bought a home defense extended mag tube model and got another bbl set up for the standard length mag tube.
Mossbergs are not expensive.....buy one to fit the other barrel (have two).
Before you trash the one you're trying to modify.

I actually didn't buy another barrel, I just noticed that my mag tube was strangely stubborn. I suppose you're right, Mossbergs are pretty inexpensive, but it is kind of irksome not being able to swap out barrels and magazines at will on the same gun. I'm trying to take more of a minimalistic approach to owning firearms, and spending more money on spare parts and practice ammo instead.

You are going to need a special tool called a strap wrench. They are not expensive. Use it on the end of the magazine where it is reinforced. Put the receiver in a padded vise.

A heat gun will soften the thread locker Mossberg uses. Its a simple job. I use Blue LocTite when reinstalling, but some do not because they want to be able to take down the gun for compact storage purposes.
