Went hog hunting this afternoon. Gun was my .54 caliber TC Fire Hawk muzzleloader loaded with 330 grain hard cast bullets with big flat noses.

Hog was first seen at about 18:55. Boars approach took a long time with him checking the area, sniffing the air, etc. At about 19:20 hog was at the feeder. Sucker was huge. At the shot the hog bolted. Checked the shot and there was blood on the ground, lots of blood.

By that time it was dark and i don't look for hogs in the brush after dark.

Of course you would have gotten one on a day I'm working!! Congrats! The only consolation is that there is still a dozen or more left for my wife and I. Assuming this is on the north property? Where were you posted up??

"Assuming this is on the north property?"

Nope, it was at our deer lease south of Walters. The north property hogs are likely untouched.

Yes, I learned my lesson on blood trailing in the brush, dark or not, a long time ago. :D What do you reckon he weighed?

We have one I've gotten pics of here that's pretty good sized and has the biggest set of cojones I've ever seen on a pig. LOL! I wouldn't wanna blood trail THAT beast, either.

Finally got around to looking for the hog: There had been a lot of rain and i never found that hog. However, i found all that is mortal of an old boar i shot about two months ago. i'm gonna keep this skull.

Your buzzards are pickier than ours. A hog laying out around here would only be hooves, hair, and bone after 7-8 days.

Here in Texas, it seems to be a season thing. Not many buzzards around in cold weather and a hog can lay for days or weeks (if coyotes don't find it) with only bugs eating on it. Things have warmed and the buzzards are definitely back.

The buzzards never leave here. There's too much good pickin's. There's the guts and stuff from the deer, but most folks will shoot a pig and juet let it lay. I'm one of the few that cleans 'em and puts 'em up and even I leave the skin/head/guts for the buzzards. :D

And, out on Hwy 90A, there's ALWAYS road kill pigs or deer....or armadillos. I've seen a few coyotes on the road dead, too.

Does she read this forum or is it a safe haven for you. Of course the threat is always there. I have a story about an old Turkish Mauser and an old tom cat about 500- 550 yards away. 22 years ago and I'm still hearing about it.
Our wives have a ... I'll leave it at that, my wife may be reading these posts also.
Buzzards, Vultures, semantics.
I understand what your saying.'

But they are still Buzzards

This is my safe haven! Well....for now. If I tell her, she will surely join. But, it's ok. She's good people! I mean hell, our first date was a day in the woods deer hunting!

Worked at the bombing range on Ft. Sill for awhile. We had big troubles with vultures, aka buzzards, roosting on one of the observation towers: They really made a mess of things. Our boss got the idea to install a radio with a big outside speaker that played 24/7. The music seemed to not bother the vultures. Then until someone tuned the radio to a 24 hour acid rock station. That ran the vultures off.

I had a great horned owl that sat on my tripod stand on my other place for a while. He'd poop all over it, so I had to clean it off in the early morning before sitting on it. One early morning I was all camoed out in my leafy wear 3D camo and he wanted to sit where I was sitting, tried to land on my head. He was startled and flew off when the tree he was going to perch on moved suddenly and swatted at him. :what:
