6 vs 8 shots, Mossberg HD

In general on a Mossberg 500 is 2 extra shots a straight upgrade or is the extra length and weight worth taking into consideration?

The HD shotgun is basically large and expensive to buy "door stop". For HD only I would pick 7+1.

My 18" Mossberg 500 has been a part of my HD lineup for quite a few years.
A few years ago, I found a 20" barrel and 8 shot mag tube on eBay for cheap.
After shooting it for year, I found I missed my short, handy 18" barrel. Yup, those two inches made a difference.
I sold the 20" barrel/mag.

I am considering trying the minishells with an opsol adaptor...that should allow a few extra shells.

From practical standpoint dedicated HD shotgun with long or extended magazine tube is useless doorstop. It seems the best way to address HD needs would be to have standard hunting gun also used in HD role instead of collecting dust in gun safe. One fine example would be Beretta 390 with factory 24" barrel and choke tubes. Eliminating "two birds with one stone" can actually be very smart notion.

11-87 waterfowl with a 10 shot extension and turkey super full loaded with 3.5" 00 buck HD/coyote gun.

A lot of people use single barrels for HD. If I can't eliminate a threat with 6 rounds of buckshot I probably deserve to lose.
