S&W K22.jpg

I have owned a number of 22lr DA revolvers, but none met my standards for accuracy or fit my hands well.
Finally I found a likely K22 on Gunbroker and won it for a $420 bid.
I believe I have finally found what I was looking for.
It has ugly Pachmyr grips.
They fit me well, but I would prefer some proper S&W ones.
I was told it was made in1951.
It seems to be a very nice revolver.
I will shoot it this weekend and find out.
If anyone has knowledge about this model, or grips, or places to find grips, I would welcome any information.

They very nice revolvers. Well made, accurate and will last a long time. For comfort I really don't care much for S&W Magna style stocks. You may like a pair of Ahrends. I have found them to be very comfortable, with excellent fit. The K-22 Masterpiece is very popular and has a wide following. I think you did very well. Sonora

I believe (and I might be wrong) that it originally came with magna stocks but I'm pretty sure target stocks would have been available as an option. You can find the correct stocks over on the S&W forum classifieds. Be forewarned... diamond targets OR magnas in good shape carry a hefty price tag. If it were mine I would be looking for a set with a bit of wear & maybe the later non diamond types.

My '55 doesn't like dirty ammo. Extraction gets pretty stiff after a few cylinders.

I have been shooting a K-22 my whole life. My dad had one. Then when I moved out of the house I bought one for myself and later I bought the stainless version (617) with the full lugged barrel. The stainless one is the six shot version that I owned long before they came out with the ones that have more holes. So, now that my dad has passed on, I own three of them.

They are great revolvers. In fact, about two hours ago, I was at a shoot where I used my dad's gun to win a little money against guys using red dots and scopes (one other guy was shooting iron sights and he was using a 617).

I have Herritt Roper stocks on my guns. They look good and feel good in the hand.

Looks like a winner to me! I mean, once those ugly rubber... things are ditched. ;)

Another recommendation for Ahrend's grips. Maybe not authentic and original, but they're very nice stocks. The 2 sets I have so far have fit every frame I've tried them on very well.

Photobucket always screws up posting pictures nowadays. It use to work just fine some time back.

I won an auction for some correct wooden grips. I'm just waiting for them to arrive. I took it to the range. It's every bit as accurate as my Buck Mark and Single Six. Frankly, it's possibly the best DA revolver I've ever shot.

Howdy

I believe we have discussed this before. These are the style Magna grips your K-22 would have been wearing when it left the factory. This one left the factory in 1950. It has a different style hammer than yours, yours has the 'speed hammer'.

Driftwood - the grips I won the auction for look like the ones in your picture. If they are different, it is in some subtle way that I'm not perceptive enough to notice. I may not get them for another week or more, though, since I mailed the seller a personal check. Chances are good that I will put them on and leave them on. I like old stuff, and I like it to look old. :)
