I am looking for a full size 9mm for a range gun. There a lot of good deals out there right now, but it is hard to pick between the guns. A lot of them are guns that I have never been able to hold, or shoot. I am looking at guns under $450. Here are some of the deals I have found, but I would like opinions on what is the best gun, and what is the best deal:
1. EAA Witness 9mm 4.5" Steel Frame - $305.96 Free S/H
2. Beretta PX4 Storm Full Size 9mm 4" Night Sights - $409.98 or $334.98 after $75 MIR $15.99 S/H
3. EAA SARGUN 9mm 4.5" Barrel - $289.99 $19.74 S/H
4. Smith and Wesson M&P9 4.25" Barrel - $369 Free S/H
5. Smith and Wesson M&P9 M2.0 4.25" - $429 $7.99 S/H
5. EAA SAR B6P 9mm 4.5" barrel - $241.99 + $9.99 S/H
6. Canik TP9SF 9mm 4.4" - $299.99 $30 S/H

I shot the M&P9 M2.0 the other day, and I liked it a lot. I am leaning toward this gun, but I read good reviews about all of the rest, and they seam like very good deals. Except the SARGUN. it looks very interesting, sounds like it has a nice trigger, seams like a lot of gun for the money, but not a lot of reviews out there. I would cross it off just for lack of information.

I do not want a used gun, I do not have the time it takes to find one and determine condition.

So, two questions. Which is the best gun, and which is the best deal? We will just be a range gun, and we may bring it with us camping.

Best is a nebulous term and won't solve anything. If those I'd buy the PX4 if you want a hammer/safety pistol and the M&P 2.0 if you don't. Both are excellent values.

Don't dismiss the Canik because it has a low price. I have one, and it is a very good firearm. The trigger and accuracy are excellent. It might be the best value (performance per dollar) of the lot.

I know best is subjective. But I am just looking for opinions. If you were to pick one to take to the range, which would be your pick as the best gun, and or best deal?

As of right know, I would pick the M&P M2.0 but I have not tried the rest, and they appear to be really good deals. The all steel Witness is supposed to be a great gun, takes CZ 75 mags, and is $305. But, I have never held or shot one. Also, everyone seams to like the TP9SF. It sounds like it may have a trigger as good or better than the M&P M2.0, and it comes with two mags and a holster for $330.00. Again, I have never held or shot one.

When I think of "best gun" I am thinking of accuracy, reliability, and overall quality of the build. "Best deal" is even more subjective because it would be a compromise of the "best gun" attributes while factoring in price. So, this is obviously just a request for opinion based on what you like in a gun. If there is a sub $450 gun that I missed, feel free to throw it in the mix.

Do you have one? Is there anything to the stuff I have read about it not coming back into battery? Or dose the SF model not have that issue (if it ever was an issue)?

Sorry, I meant does not dose.

I have not had any trouble with mine. It shoots and cycles fine all the time. I also have the Springfield XD, but rarely shoot it because I usually pick up the Canik.

My Witnesses are my favorite centerfire pistols. That is a good price and I would take it.

Of your list of guns I have owned a Beretta PX4 Storm, EAA Witness Steel Frame and Smith & Wesson M&P. The only one that I still own is the Beretta PX4. I think that it is far and away a higher quality gun than the Witness (more accurate, less felt recoil, better mags, easier to find accessories). When comparing the PX4 to the M&P it really comes down to preference of action type. I prefer DA/SA so I kept the PX4, but anyone that prefers striker fired would not be losing anything by going M&P over PX4. I do think recoil is a little stronger in the M&P, but it has cheaper magazines so there is a trade-off.

None of those are bad choices. Although I never handeled the M&P 2 I did have the original and that would be my first choice. SW is the most established brand with the best warranty and the aftermarket parts for the m&p will be much better than the others . The Witness gets great feedback as well as the Canik which I I am looking at the sfx version. I own the SAR B6P and if you want to save some money for ammo etc it would be a great choice. I have over 2k rounds through mine now and not one failure. Only downside is aftermarket parts. I really wish I could get some fiber optic sites for it! Holster s can be found though. The only other consideration if it matters would be the type of action. The Witness/B6P are single/double action the M&P is striker fired

From your list I would choose the M&P 2.0. I tried one out at LGS factory shoot and it was an impressive shooter.

You might also check out the CZ P09 as it is very close to your price range. I have also seen the HK VP9 very close to your price range at times which IMO is another outstanding choice.

It's been a few years now, but I bought my CZ 75 Police new for $479. You might find a new one at a store for a scootch under $450, maybe? The prices have gone up a bit since then, I know, but they also weren't discounted off of MSRP at all back then. Maybe the current competition has driven street prices down. I don't know that, but it might be worth checking out. Definitely one of the stars of full size 9mm's. Steel frame makes it heavy for carry, though.

The FNS is another great 9mm. Love the ergos on mine. Again, it'll just barely limbo under your price limit, but it's probably going to be less money than the CZ. Polymer, and can be had with or without safety

This is pure opinion as all are good guns.

If you want a range toy: Canik TP9. It's my best shooter. But the company is "new" to America and warranty work is through Century... Not ideal. However, I wouldn't foresee any issues.

If you want a defensive tool that's great on the range: M&P 2.0 for striker, PX4 for hammer. The Smith has a lifetime warranty from a legacy company and Berettas are near perfection.

Sorry it cut off. How is the trigger on the Witness compared to the M&P M2.0 or the Canik or the Walther. I like a nice light trigger with a clean brake. A heavier DA first pull is ok if the SA is light.

Witness and Canick are the best value. I had a Witness for many years. Wish I hadn't sold it. Have a Tristar (Canick) C100 now. $329 from, Sports Academy. A lot of pistol for the money.

Of the guy listed I would probably opt for the Beretta PX4, though I would prefer the compact version over the full size model.

The weakest part of a semi-auto is the magazine so extra mags (and affordable) are a must for me. I factor the availability and cost of extra mags when buying a semi-auto. Probably the most expensive mags are for my SIG while the cheapest are military surplus for my Beretta 92.

S&W has a $75 mail in rebate deal going on right now thru June 30 on the M&P shield 9. I bought one last weekend. I picked it up for $325, with the rebate I'll have $250 in it.

My FiL has an M&P. I have two Wintnesses (and one more en route!). I have shot his and the trigger was good. I like the Witness ones a little better, but it's probably win/win.

They're also including the SD9VE in the specials
I'd rather have an M&P but for low $200s then add an Apex trigger it could be the sleeper of deals right now

About 2 months ago I went through this exact same process.

I personally don't like striker fire pistols, so that eliminated quite a few.

Some time ago, a friend of my wife's came out to the house to shoot her brand new Beretta PX4 Storm that her well meaning brother-in-law selected for her. The grip was about the same diameter as a beer bottle, so it was out.

I liked the EAA's, but the steel frame models were too heavy, IMHO, for a 9mm.

I researched the SAR B6P TO DEATH, trying to find something negative about this pistol that cost <$250. It was really, really difficult to find anything negative about in in all the reviews I read. So I ordered one from Classic Arms. After shipping and FFL transfer I was all in for $285.

The only thing I can fault about the pistol is the SA trigger pull which was pretty creepy and broke at 5.5-6 lbs. I figured out how to remedy that with a little careful stoning and now have it down to 4 lbs. with just an almost imperceptible amount of creep.

I've shot it most days in the last 2 months with the goal of putting 1000 rounds through it without cleaning it just to see what would happen. Nothing happened. It just kept going and going and going. After a little over 1000 rounds I disassembled it and gave it a good cleaning.

I've been amazed at how accurate this pistol is:

I've never been a 9mm fan at all, but am so impressed with this one, that I found a used one and bought it. After tuning the trigger the same as the first, I can't tell the two of them apart.

Good luck in your decision.

35W

ETA- These models will accept Mec-Gar CZ 75 Magazines with a tiny bit of modification to the catch recess.
