When they first showed this it appeared that it was 2 people shooting at each other, perhaps 2 rival gang members. Now it's being released that the person in the car was the victim of an attempted car jacking and concealed carrier. Not sure it's how I would have handled it, but I don't want to second guess, but it worked out for him and his passenger. He also won't be charged which is good. The impressive quality of the video is due to the gas stations new state of the art cameras apparently.

Rarely is this caught on camera. Happy that all of the good people are ok. That passenger must have almost had a heart attack.

Caught on Camera: Concealed Carrier Shoots and Kills Armed Car Jacker
[VIDEO]

By Tribunist Staff on May 11, 2017

An unnamed motorist at a gas station in Elmwood Park, Illinois, shot and killed a would-be carjacker in early April, the whole event being caught on the station’s security cameras. However, police say the motorist acted in self defence and will not be charged for the incident.

I looks like he took cover behind the back tire and moved the shooting away from the passenger. I don't know if that was intentional, but it looks like he did everything right. On another note, I grew up a few blocks from there and my mom still lives there. Not happy to see that happening there.

Looks pretty good. A try and remind my passengers to keep the door locked and also to lock things up when unfamiliar people approach.

Plan A should always be to drive away if possible, don't know if the car was running or not. Decent reaction, but going that high over the roof is not ideal, staying low and taking the first shot from either around the front or rear of the vehicle would be better.

Going high distracted the thug from the passenger.

True, but he was still in the line of fire of the passenger, a lateral displacement would clear the field of fire, limit exposure, and bullets impacting the thug will distract him from the passenger.

I'm not saying it is a "right" vs. "wrong" issue, rather "good" vs. "better".

In the Army we just call it an after action review and do it after every mission/training event to reinforce what we did well and establish a plan to improve on the things we didn't do so well. If (God forbid) I ever get into a shooting on video, I hope you guys can get some good take-aways from it to help you survive/improve your training.

What he did well was immediately respond to the deadly force threat and then he moved and worked his cover from over the top then to the right and low. His marksmanship was obviously adequate as well given the outcome.

Bye.. One less million dollar trial the taxpayers will have to fund
and the national average to confine one is around $55,000.00 per year.

Fantastic job on the part of the CCW holder and soon the family of the THUG will
be squawking about what a good boy he was.

I'm not going quarterback would he did or didn't do. I'm just glad it turned out well for him and his.

My question is I didn't see where he got off any other shots besides that first one over the hood. Anyone else?

I wasn't there and the video doesn't show the surrounding area but I'm not sure I would have gotten into a gun fight if it was in a built up area. As the video shows the owner of the car shot at the carjacker just as a SUV was pulling in to get gas. He could just as easily hit that driver and would have that on his conscience. Also the video doesn't show the location of the store itself which usually have a number of customers inside and coming and going. I don't know if the carjacker would have shot the car owner or not but in most cases the carjacker just wants the vehicle and leaves the victim alone. The end result was good, society has one less scum bag.
