What is your "grail" gun?

Winchester 1892 32-20 in fine condition. My father has two in Australia - they're mine one day, but to bring them stateside would cost as much as just buying one here.

Importing them isn't the issue - it's exporting them from Australia where the costs are.

Can you disassemble them into "salvage parts" and ship them piecemeal?

And, if you're interested, I have a S&W revolver in .32-20 (Mod. of 1905 - 4th change) with a 6" barrel. It's at least 75 years old, possibly more than 85 y.o.

You have a typo there, it is Model of 1905 ... 4th Change was S/Ns 65,701 thru 127,160 mfd May 1915 to July 1924. I have a 3rd (~1913) and a 4th (~1922). :)

Thanks for that Model year notice. Hands don't type as well as they used to, thanks to "Uncle Arthur". :(
The info I was given was that these pistols were made from 1915-1940 with the serial number range of 65,701-144,684. My revolver's number starts at "111xxx" and the appraiser who told me this estimated the MFD date in the mid-1920s. 1925 to 2017 is 92 years. I was figuring on the short side of that age say, 1930. That would make it 87 years old.

Call me crazy, but a sawed-off SxS hammerless shotgun, like the one "Mississippi" had in El Dorado. I probably wouldn't be able to hold onto it, and there's really no practical use, I just always liked it. No specific manufacturer, but anything reliable (in terms of firing).

Oh, or an M60. Again, no practical use, but I'd love to turn some boulders around here into gravel!

I am not a big fan of "What is" threads....but in looking at them, and I am watching software do all the work this morning....why not.

Now I am not talking about that 45acp luger...What is in your budget....or just a tick out of it that you are going....I have always wanted one of those. Thinking...well the wife will be mad and I will sleep on the couch...but I will have an X.

Myself, I would love an MP40, that is at the upper limit of what I would do for a toy.

In more "normal" area I would love a good Ross, after that I start to get into the odd WWI rifles,

So what is that rifle or hand gun that if you saw somewhere for a price you could really afford what is that item..

Let's break this down. The Holy Grail was the chalice/cup/vessel Jesus Christ used at the Last Supper to celebrate the proto-Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. A fairly unremarkable cup made of stone, it's unbelievably special based on its history, who made use of it and for what reason.

That said I would like to own a .50 BMG M2 water cooled machine gun that had been fired at some point by Gen. George Patton. Being a native Californio I would love to one day do the following at my home range -- IN California!

This is awesome once that sucker starts firing!

The Grail is wood. Carpenter's cup, he chose poorly, etc.

.460 S&W. Not sure I'd enjoy shooting it, but the concept is cool.

PPSh-41. Suomi KP/-31 too.

Have the Garand.

That's the stuff right there!

I'd be perfectly content with a garden variety M2.

But here in reality, a Sig 226 is really the only thing I'm chomping at the bit for

I wouldn't mind a nice 1st gen Colt SSA in .38-40 to match my original '73 Winchester. An M-2 Carbine with folding stock would be very nice, too.

Webley Fosbery. Last one I saw in a shop was a decade or so ago. It was in reasonable condition but at $7000, a bit out of my range.

In the truly unobtainable category, my grail gun would be a 40mm Bofors on one of the towable single mounts that the Army used for anti-aircraft fire during WWII.

Something a bit more reasonable but still alot out of reach, a WWII vintage M1 Thompson, or a Johnson rifle.

Finally, a S&W K-32 or Model 16-0, 1, 2, or 3 (I have a 16-4). Except in pictures, I've never seen one. The pocket book may not be able to handle it anyway.

Lahti L-39 20mm anti tank rifle

Stg-44

A legit Russian SVD.

M249 SAW

WW1 Luger P-08

Original Russian M91, mint condition. Non-Finn capture.

And an endless list of other old, odd and turn of the century firearms

Regardless of the technical definition of "grail," I would very much like to own a Luger, a broom handle Mauser 96, and a Finnish Lahti L-35 pistol or the equivalent Swedish M-40. Obviously all of these are obtainable with sufficient cash incentives but I have other priorities.

Both four and two legged "Bears" I assume? If so, doesn't that sort of harken back to the Cold War?
