Would you trust your life with a .380?

Heck, I'd trust it with a rock if that is all I had. Now a .380 ain't no .45 but it good hands it will get you through the night.

I would not trust my life to any service size (or below) handgun. About the only thing I would "trust my life to" would be drum fed 12 gauge, an M1A. Or perhaps a double 12 with auto ejectors or a double rifle in something like .303.

I would agree! These are just the self defense tools anyone would need and be able to use quickly in a confined/crowded space!
Of course if the threat to your & others life was out in the middle of a 40 acre field then your choice would be great!

i rather trust my lcr .38spl +p over a .380acp. but if you must go .380acp, shooting the bull on youtube did a lot of testing and the xtp bullet actually passed fbi standards. check it out cause a lot of .380 rounds in hollow points do not make it to the 12" mark.

Would I trust it if I had to, yes. Is it my first choice, no.

It's funny. I live in MD. I don't own a business with large cash deposits (or that deals with easily moved/stolen and liquidated assets like jewelry or guns), I'm not a cop, I'm not a judge, and I'm not a prosecutor/states attorney. That combination means I can't get a CCW permit in my home state. Thus, I don't usually carry anything bigger than a knife and pepper spray (and being a teacher, most of the time I'm outside the home I can't carry a knife either). A .380 would be a huge step up from my daily gear.

I have a UT non-resident permit, and I'm soon applying for a NH (a few years ago PA stopped accepting the non-resident permit from most states, including UT, but they still have reciprocation with the non-resident NH permit) and I usually carry when in a state that allows it (usually a couple times a month, plus often on vacation). I have an LCP that I carried a few times, and some years back I had a Bersa Thunder I carried a few times. However, I find myself feeling very uncomfortable about carrying a .380 and rarely go to a carry state with less than a 9mm.

I suppose if I lived in a carry state and carried all the time the convenience of the small LCP may outweigh my discomfort with the caliber and I might find myself carrying it more (and if I carried it more, I'd shoot it more at the range). If I carried and practiced with it more I might become more comfortable with it. So, in that situation, I recognize that it is possible that my position may change. However, as things stand now, as irrational as it is (being that a .380 would be an improvement over what I can usually carry- knife and pepper spray), I just don't trust it much.

If I had a .22LR or .22Mag, that is better than a stick, knife, or rock. If 380 was all I had, I would be okay having that.

My next CCW will be a .380 in the 10-13 oz range for height of the summer carry.
One point to consider is that in it's role as a world wide police/military/personal defense round in the 100+ years it has been around it has been deemed effective in 10s of thousands of shootings. If it was inadequate it would not be one of the most popular SD rounds in history.

Yes !
No !
Maybe so ?
Certainly !

We're not skipping rope here.
It's a matter of self defense.

If it's what I have . Yes !
What are the other alternatives ?
I prefer a gun over NOT a gun.

If the answer is "No", would you prefer a Mauser 1914 .32 ACP or a KelTec .32 ACP ?
That's the next step below .380.

I hadn't thought of it...

but whoever carried my surplus Beretta 84 apparently did. It is quite worn, so apparently one or more people trusted it (or carried it and didn't trust it) for a long time.

A 380 double-stack service pistol is a different creature than a tiny 380 pocket pistol, IMHO.

I would not trust a 380 but would use it if nothing else was available. Hope I'm never put in that position.

Unfortunately I trust my life to kids (and older people) driving while doing all sorts of stupid things other than paying attention to driving. So, sure I can trust a .380, at least until one rearends me after I have already been sitting at a stop light for a minute and a half....
