THANK YOU, before my agency did us as a qual for free = I had to pay about 100 a year.
Those men & women who take advantage of your offer are very lucky.
I know someone mentioned it already but the determining factor for correction officers is can they arrest someone and general LE duties. If you're a CO and you can't arrest someone then you're not covered.
MPS and other military LE can carry under LEOSA. IIRC you need to contact a place in TX that handles verifying your service and issues your ID. Google you will find the detailsm

As others have stated,its an unequal carve out,sold by claiming " it's all we can do right now politically"... " All we can do right now politically" has become the way nothing ever seems to be done for the rest of us-those whose knowledge, experience and training may overlap...but you know what? Even if someone had NO experience(military or otherwise)it's a Bill of RIGHTS-not the Letter Of Kiss My Sacred Seal.

Yes, I have the license authorized under HR 218 (actually 18 USC 926C(d), but HR 218 is easier to remember). I have to carry my retired credentials and a yearly qualification 'card' to show I'm up to date.
Local rules in my area: Local P. D. qualifies qualified applicants for free. (Have to blend in with the P. D. qualifications.) Must qualify to the local standards, the state mandated qualification for all state law enforcement. Harder than some, not as hard as could be; probably better than most in my training and experience. Can only qualify with one weapon (which irritates me, but it's local and free; could be worse).
Limited application. Yes it is. In my not so humble opinion, everyone should be able to carry everywhere (with possible exceptions of the traditionally prohibited areas, like while drinking or in the courthouse or lockup). A law or sign never stopped a villain from taking a weapon into anywhere with evil intent. However, until that happens - and I donate to such causes - I will take advantage of what I can. It's not that I'm special, someone else thought I was special - please don't tell them.

Amen. Some animals are more equal than others it seems.
I obviously agree,but I DO understand the individual covered under LEOSA availing themselves of the benefit not available to the rest. I have contempt for those who truly have the " Im SPECIAL!" /"SELECTED not merely HIRED" mindset,and utter dislike for the elected /appointed officials who use the carveouts as a wedge .... Hopefully,probably not soon;but at SOME point we'll go back to a standard that no longer" qualifies" a natural right.

I have the utmost respect for our LE and military people. I think when retire they should be given what's necessary to live a comfortable lifestyle and be taken care of health wise.
As far as guns, I'm all for constitutional carry nationally. So as far as what I think, if that actually happened, it would just make it easier for ex-LE/military to carry. As it is now, I hold no ill will towards retired LE using HR218.
I don't think it's right, but it's hardly worth getting bent out of shape about given what they've put on the line.

IF your explanation was accurate,then you would be correct.
How many times have those YOU want covered EVER actually shot a qualification course ??.
How many times have they actually drawn a loaded gun from a holster UNDER stress ??.
How many times have "they" taken the use of force course AND done a live shoot / don't shoot course ??.
I was never one for "fairy dust" and if that is how you see all the training I had to pass,and all the shooting I had to DEMONSTRATE to become a instructor = then look MUCH harder,please.
How many times have "they" had to draw their weapon and hold a real person at gun point ??.
I actually do want ALL to CCW in this nation [ only LEGALLY of course ].
BUT it is MY butt on that line IF "they" are not keeping their FRIENDLY FIRE in their pants.
