Where are all the CZ guns?

Is it me or does it seem like CZs are not stocked as well as firearms from other manufacturers. For instance, the CZ Scorpions are not always in stock. I have also been looking for a CZ 455 Tacticool and might end up going with a Ruger American Rimfire Target instead simply because I cannot find the 455 Tacticool anywhere.

I like CZ and I know others like CZ, but I cannot imagine that they just sell so fast that they can't keep items in stock. Do they only import so many at a time? I remember that the 2016 version of the Scorpion was nearly impossible to find last year (probably because of election fears and people trying to get their SBR paperwork in before 41F) at this time, but then they showed up and now they're more difficult to find.

Just wondering if anyone had any knowledge of what might be the issue. Thanks.

Last May or June I had a deposit at a LGS who ordered CZ -455 Varmint Thumbhole Fluted in 22LR for me. I waited for months and months until about November when they told me that model had been discontinued. Then in January a different LGS got in a big shipment of CZ's and had several of the exact model I wanted but had been discontinued. That was because they got them from a different distributor who still had a bunch of unsold CZ's in their warehouse. Moral of the story is: If one dealer can't get what you're looking for there's always the chance that a different dealer may be able to help you out. Just depends on who their distributor is and what that distributor has in stock. Sometimes you have to search around, when I first heard that the CZ-455 model I wanted was discontinued I was starting to think about those Ruger American Rimfire Target models also. They seem pretty sharp and while I really like my CZ; I'd bet one those could keep me happy, too.

+1....I guess I used to think that dealers got guns from the factory. Then I worked at the LGS. We ordered from three different distributors. Prices and availability could vary considerably, availability more than price.

I want a CZ-75 but can't find one, I was told that they import certain guns at certain times of the year, who knows though.

I don't go to gun stores often, but every time I've gone to them I have never seen a CZ rifle or pistol.

I had to order my CZs online and have them shipped in to my local FFL/gun store.

You need to go see Chuck over at South Texas TriPods and Feeders, just south of The Woodlands. Stocking CZ dealer with largest selection in the Houston area.

I think they're a small part of the supply, and people in the know tend to buy and keep them. Personally, I have bought both CZ rifles I've ever seen for sale, a 527 in .222 and a 550 in .270. I don't think either will leave anytime soon.

Can someone elaborate on the fascination with CZ? Not trying to start any kind of flame war but it seems like they are flavor of the month at the moment. I've never had a go on one, so if someone can tell me what I'm missing?

CZ has something of a cult following; they're a relatively small company which makes nice guns with some unique touches and a little Old World class at a reasonable price point. I have three in hand and a couple more on my list.

It's been going on for decades.

They have an undercurrent of support for many years. Prejudice towards a commie gun (or former Warsaw Pact country), bias toward anything with an American sounding name has made it hard for them to get inroads into the USA. However the rest of the world has understood their value for a longer time.

As others have said, they are nothing new. I have owned them since the mid 1990's. I currently have five CZ pistols, and am looking for a CZ centerfire rifle for hunting right now. They never disappoint me.

It's one of those things where, for those who understand, no explanation is necessary. Once you've shot a CZ, you either become a convert after two magazines, or walk away from them.

There was and is a certain mystique to them, because back in the late 1970s until about 1991, they were nearly unobtainable in America...I've known for several years now, a fellow in his 80s who is a member of our local Friends of NRA committee. This past year at the Christmas party, he recounted a story of taking a road trip to Canada in approximately 1985 for a co-worker to buy a CZ-75.

I'm kinda fond of them myself. ;) I walked into a very small local gun shop on Monday and found a Scorpion pistol, Scorpion carbine and a P-07 on the shelf. That surprised me a bit, nice to see. The gun shop I transfer firearms in through almost always has a Scorpion on the shelf, since they sell very well, but never pistols.
CZ grips just fit me like a glove, and I have been very happy with mine for years. They aren't my only guns, but they are pretty much my favorite ones.

Try one, you might get addicted. :D Or at the least, you might like them. They've become my favorite small arms company: https://www.czub.cz/produktovy_katalog_en/files/assets/basic-html/page-1.html#

I got my first CZ in March, 2012 after seeing reviews and remarks from owners who also owned a bunch of other guns including much more costly ones. Since then, 27 of the 35 guns I've bought have been CZ or BRNO (4 from BRNO, CZ's predecessor, essentially).

Maybe you've already been checking Armslist for your state, and local area?
A Memphis gun shop owned by an actual gun smith (Keith Warner) had a CZ-75, which I handled, about 1--1&1/2 years ago.

I've only been into Makarovs, but a CZ-75 Compact was at the Germantown TN gun show about two years ago.

Hi 50calscience,

It's nothing new. A while ago CZs were like the gun world's best kept secret. The secret's pretty much out now. Even after the increase in price over the past several years (about double what they were ten years ago) CZ still manufactures quality products at attractive prices.

That's really all there is to it.

ZB and CZ are different companies. At one time ZB used to make Mauer sporters and break open firearms not sure what they make now. I assumed CZ had large factory. Many don't realize but before WWII Czechoslovakia was one of the biggest weapons exporters around the world.

True, they had the Skoda works and ZB Brno plus handgun production in Praha. The significance of their military armament capability was fact that after annexation of Czechoslovakia Germans gained significant advantage and were able to start WWII by attacking Poland on September 1st (they already had OK from Soviet Russia through Molotov-Ribbentrop agreement). This was surprising as the Poles had very, very favorable agreement with Germany from 1934 so it should not have been difficult for them to reach agreement over Danzig the corridor plus issues over control of Slovakia and shift military operations to France and later Soviet Union sparing their own horrendous destruction.

I use to have no success in finding any CZ guns either at the local gun shops or gun shows. Then finally I found a gun shop about an hour away that stocked CZ products. And the only reason they had any was that the one sales person who did the ordering liked CZs too so he always made it a point to try to get some into the store. When I bought my P01 they also had a P06 and a P07 in the display case. They made me such a great deal on a Kadet .22 conversion that I bought that too!
