I have a couple of these cheap belt slide plastic holsters and they are too tight in the trigger guard locking area to be practically useful for matches, etc. How hot do they need to be to "stretch" them open a little? I have the tension screws backed out until they come out and I still can't easily holster or draw.

"get a better holster" is not welcome at this time. thx

Maybe some rough sandpaper wrapped around the gun will loosen it. As to temp. I think around 300. probably not hair drier but maybe. Its a gamble because its easy to make it too loose or completely wreck it.

Well it's like a 12 dollar gamble so...

I doubt sandpaper would help. It's really waaaay too tight around the trigger guard hump.

I use the long BBQ style lighters to warm the piece, but I make a wood mold of the shape I want to reshape to it, warm the Kydex and stick the wood in and let cool, might take a few tries though, but I have made room for thumb safeties and stretched out rigger guard like you want.

Talked to a kydex holster maker at a match yesterday and he told me what I initially feared... this plastic doesn't form. It's injection molded and just turns back to goo if you heat it. I might try a wedge or a file/sandpaper.

Heat gun/hair dryer. About 4-6" from holster. Heat up slow. When barely pliable, insert the handgun and do your thing. Can be done over and over. Get a small hot dish pad and use to shape the area. You will have a minute or two.

1Kperday, just read your post. I do this with Kydex that I make at the shop. Kydex is easily reformed. I have "changed" some areas on other holsters but I cannot speak to the injection molded plastic. Never asked the customer :(

I use a small toaster oven set to about 250. Just set a piece of scrap kydex on a block, when you see it warp, pull it out and see if it's as flexible as a Kraft Single Am cheese slice. Then make sure the oven shuts off at that moment.

Since decent holsters are $45-60, I no longer make holsters. Except for cellphones, scuba, or tools. It's $10-20 kydex, $15 for plastic loops, $3 in rivets and screws, and 3 hours to get it just right.

Good catch - didn't consider the brand not being made from kydex.

When I said cool before removing, I meant before removing the pistol from the kydex. To loosen kydex, a guy can bulk up the tight area with tape, reform under heat, then let cool in situ, so there is relief when the tape is removed.
