A friend has this basket case,(all parts there except the grips) 1860 Colt, thinks it may be an original. The refiling is very good, it is counter clockwise, left hand, and it is progressive. Don't remember the exact size of the chambers.but they are about .003 larger than my Uberti.
It has the Colt signature on the back strap. All of the parts have the same serial #, which I was told is high.
Sorry hope to get permission to take a few pictures

A Colt Signature Series would have a Sam Colt signature on the back strap but they don't normally have progressive twist rifling. Progressive twist rifling should be almost straight at the breech and get more twist as it approaches the muzzle. Are you sure it has progressive twist? What is the serial number(or just the first 3 or 4 digits if you don't want to say the whole thing)? I believe Colt 2nd Generations started where the originals left off and the Sig Series started where the 2nd Gens left off. So if it's a Sig Series the serial number should be higher than both the originals and the 2nd Gens. Pictures would help greatly.

The Colt 1860 Army had gain twist. This is a change in pitch. The lands widened toward the muzzle. They began narrow at the forcing cone and widened to the muzzle. This was to keep the pressure from stripping the bullet. Did it work? Different bullet construction was the cure. I think the 58' Remington used the gain twist.
