What's the one target you wish your range had that it currently does not? The answers to this are usually pretty interesting.

Well, let's see:
  • Shade
  • Something more than rocks to sit on.
  • Remotely resettable human silhoutte targets like we had on the range at Ft. Knox.
  • A 4x4 foot sandbox to the side of the shooter with removable screen to simplify brass recovery.

I belong to 3 different ranges and what one doesn't have one of the others does. I just have to decide what kind of shooting I'm going to do that day or just go to all 3.:)

A place to shoot rifles from field-expedient positions (e.g. not off of a bench).

It's unfortunate that more ranges don't offer positions that allow people to shoot from prone, sitting, kneeling, standing and standing propped up with a support; you know, all the ways that you would actually have to shoot if you were trying to harvest a deer to make sure you had meat through the winter.

I actually have that at the range on my farm because I don't have any kind of bench at all.

A simulated tree stand so you could get used to being in an elevated position and strapped to the tree with a nylon harness.

More room. I'm like GBE, I just make what I want. Just don't have the room to set it all up at home.

I built a couple of these that can have you shooting from positions that you never even imagined before.

Air conditioning. I went to my indoor range yesterday to break in a new to me handgun. Was probably 90+ in the shooting lanes.

I've also got my own range (25-800 yards), complete with a couple V-TAC barricades, AR500 plates, IDPA target stands, knockdowns, mover (for Tueller Drills) and an IDPA swinger. I've pretty much gathered enough "stuff" to put together a couple challenging IDPA stages. I try to add a new target every year or so. Earlier this year I built a Bianchi Barricade to get ready for the IDPA Classifier. I think my next project is building a "Drop Turner" as I shot one in a match and did not have a lot of fun with it.

I've got a little range shack I keep it all in (minus the permanently mounted rifle swingers @ 200-800y) and I'm getting a little tight on space.

My Texas Star was stolen 2yrs ago, and I haven't taken the time to build a new one, and can't bring myself to pay the asking prices of factory versions. So that's what I wish I had at my range currently.

Dang, that's a heck of a thing to steal, sorry.:(
I'd like some full size targets like I saw on a Hungarian black powder video I saw on the board, but they are probably too expensive. For paper punching targets are either bullseye or realistic, and I think many different types of realistic targets are a good thing, especially for those practicing for defensive purposes.

My club has an outdoor range. They only allow paper targets. Nothing reactive. Not even balloons.

Punching paper get's old.

The outdoor range near where I used to live was the same. Only thing we were allowed to shoot was paper. There was a water bottle left out by the 100 meter berm one time. I had used all my paper targets dialing in my various rifles and handguns I brought. So I wanted to do one last confirmation shot so I hit that water bottle. They didn't let me come back to the range for a month.

Not a target for me, but a tech guy. My range (usually) has a working camera at the end of the 100, 200, 300, 400 etc so you can see your hits right on a small TV screen without needing a spotter. It works off and on but it sure is handy...when it works...

My back yard is my range to but I know what it's missing....
A Texas star.

I've always wanted one, but I'm to cheap to buy one, they're a little pricey for me.

I also have my own range, however it is on BLM land and all my targets are portable, however I can shoot anywhere from 3yards to 1000 yards if I so desire, also have a portable shooting bench, ground cover for shooting in the prone or sitting position, and quite a few steel reactive targets as well as stationary paper targets. BTW the range is less than 5 minutes from my front door.
