I have always been a big fan of Val Forgett and Navy Arms. In the 1975 Lyman Black Powder Handbook, there is an article written by Forgett describing his muzzle loader African safari. One of the rifles he used was a 58 cal Hawken Hunter. The projectile he used was a 610 grain thick skirted mini from a mold made by Shiloh Products. It was loaded on top of 180 grains of FFFg.

I recently acquired a Hawken Hunter and would like to duplicate this load. Unfortunately, any attempts to locate Shiloh Products turns up nothing. Anyone know what happened to this company and if this mold can still be acquired?

Is this the same company? The Shiloh Sharps is well thought of from what I've read? I do not see molds/moulds on their current site though.

From Wikipedia:

Shiloh Sharps Rifle began production in 1983. Previously, the Sharps rifle reproductions were manufactured by Shiloh Products Inc. founded by Len Mulé (pronounce Mull-A) of Garfield, New Jersey, in partnership with Wolfgang Droge, who owned Drovel Tool Company of Farmingdale, New York, from 1976 to 1983. Len Mulé was responsible for all early drawings and mechanical drawings and prototype work on the Model 1863 and truly deserves the full credit for as the second founder of Sharps and its re-introducing into the modern era.

I was unaware of that history. I looked at Shiloh Rifle Co but did not see any molds either. Saw the one on EBay some time after it was sold. It didn't specify the weight of the projectile but may have been the one. Will never know.

Any typo's in the above as to weight of projectile, powder or to the powder grade. Reason I ask is, at 180 grains powder charge of 3F I wonder how much is going out of the barrel unburned. The flame and spark column from the muzzle must be awsome.

No typos. Forgett stated that the charge was fully burned in the 26" barrel and attributed this to the weight of the projectile. He originally worked up a load with 200 grains of powder but backed off until the entire charge was consumed in the barrel. This is how he landed on the 180 grain charge. According to him.
