Nightstand Revolvers

The .38/200 was among the best military handguns of WWII. Long enough barrel lower noise & muzzle flash make for very good night stand gun. Sadly ammo has single bullet weight and is seasonally manufactured by couple companies.

For nightstand duty same comments apply. Ammo from Hornady or Fiocci should be available.

Fearing for my wifes struggle to rack lcp slide and maybe resulting problems in a FTF defensive situation, I too have switched her back to a revolver. She had switched from SW M60 to lcp for concealment reasons. I recently bought her a 642 (no exposed hammer). Carried her to lgs, let her "touchy feelly", try in pocket book, make her own mind up, then buy it herself ( I paid)

To shoot, simply pull the trigger. No safety, no hammer.
FTF, pull simply pull trigger again.
Fairly simple.

I mentioned I transitioned to autos for nightstand duty but did remember, I put my CZ up and leave one of my M19 snubs out loaded with 38's when I'm gonna be out of town for the night as she's more comfortable with it. She has zero trigger time on anything other than revolvers and 1911's and is much more comfortable with a safetyless wheel gun.

My grandfather used to keep his 45 in the nighstand drawer next to his side of the bed. I was strictly cautioned to never touch it and I obeyed.

But times have changed and in response to enough accounts of children getting access to their parents' guns and killing themselves or others, it is now a crime in most states to store your gun in such a way that a curious child could get to it.

If this topic has been discussed ad nauseam, I apologize.
Things change, guns change. So it's a question that bares repeating. People also change what they keep handy for defense.

I personally now keep a Rossi 85 stainless .38 Special with RP 110gr +P JHP. But I've also kept a Ruger Security-Six and a S&W 3906 9mm. In the house I don't use .357 ammo. It's too powerful and penetrates too much. When I drive cross country, I carry a 4-inch Security-Six loaded with magnum ammo (usually 125gr JHP). And if I were to hike, I'd carry a 6-inch Security-Six, again, most likely with 125gr JHPs. (I couldn't do that with a S&W 686 or a Ruger GP-100 -- they're too big).

On the low end, I feel perfectly safe with a Ruger Mark II at home. Its accuracy, speed and efficiency gave me great faith in the .22LR round. I'm a little less enamored with .22 revolvers because tribes are heavier and stiffer. The round itself is very underrated.

Confederate

I like your Rossi Model 85. Reminds me a lot of a Model 88 that I had many years ago when they were being imported by Interarms. Great little .38 Special revolver that served me well as my backwoods companion.

I have a CZ75 in my nightstand, but before that it was a 4" S&W 66. Now the 66 stays in the livingroom, and I only move it to the nighstand when I travel out of town since my wife is more comfortable with the revolver. I also switch put in .38sp Critical Defense loads for her, the last thing I want is for her to ever need and and be terrified of the flash and bang from a .357 (which she refuses to shoot).
