For the money, Jard is probably your best bet. They're very affordable, and I can't say I've ever felt a nicer two stage trigger.

There are Gieselle's for only incrementally more than the RRA NM triggers, and they ARE legitimately better than the RRA. The G2S is $130 on sale at Brownells right now. I'm using a G2S-E in a customer rifle build on which I'm currently working, which are on sale now for $150, and it's a notably better trigger than the RRA NM or NM-V.

The hi speed NM 2 stage is a pretty penny, and worth every bit, but it's understandable not everyone wants to put a $250-280 trigger into their carbine. But there are cheaper options of insanely good quality in Gieselle's line up.

My favorite 2 stage trigger of the past, cheaper than the Gieselle NM 2 stage, was the Bushmaster NM 2 stage, but these are rather high priced when they can be found, and frankly, just can't be found most of the time.

One important thing to consider - not all 2 stages are designed with the same spread between the stages. The Gieselle and Bushmaster triggers are a heavy take up with a light break, a good surprise break trigger, whereas the RRA design (inferior in my opinion for precision shooting) is light in the first stage with a heavy wall. The RRA design is nice for a guy who likes a heavier trigger and wants to feel his finger on trigger before the break, basically a guy who wants a single stage trigger with a little more sensation. But if you want a surprise break, the RRA design falls behind the others. Still a good trigger, and I'm happy to use 3 of them in personal rifles, but it sure isn't on par with a Gieselle G2S, let alone a Gieselle Hi speed NM 2stage.

LaRue gets good write ups - two tiered pricing - now, or can wait.

Gieselle is great.

For inexpensive, go ALG. Made by Gieselle, but to a refined mil spec. Great trgiggers for the money.

I have a Larue ($99 on sale I can wait price), and a Gieselle G2S (On sale). The G2S is superior IMHO.

I also have an ALG trigger and for the money they are very good.

At $109 the G2S is going to be hard to beat.

Would love to have one but that's just a little out of my price range or maybe just more than I'm willing to spend at this point
Spend once, cry once, be happy forever. Geissele's SSA and SSA-E triggers are entirely reasonable, on sale now @ $192, which is $42 off regular. I have the HS National Match DMR trigger in my AR, the only difference between it and the SSA's is that I can adjust the pull, the SSA's aren't adjustable. The 1st stage pull is short and smooth, the 2nd stage is crisp and immediate with no creep.

If you want an outstanding single stage trigger for practically nothing, look at ALG Defense. Geissele owns this, essentially they are his triggers. The ALG's are very finely tuned milspec single-stage triggers.

I'm just an average everyday AR15 owner with no special expertise.

I have on my ARs:
1. Stock mil-spec (Colt) trigger
2. ALG ACT (slicked up mil-spec trigger)
3. Hiperfire 243g
4. Larue MBT

For me:
1. Shooting a stock mil-spec trigger is like trying to chop wood with a dull ax. Eventually you get there but at what cost? I'm just not very good with it.
2. I added the JP 3.5 pound spring kit to the ALG ACT build and it results in a pretty decent trigger for the price. If no other options were available it would work. if you use the spring kit you need to verify it works with your ammo as the reduced spring kit could be an issue. I haven't had any problems with a variety of M193 type ammo. Your particular rifle may only be reliable with a mil-spec or close to mil-spec type trigger group. If you don't want to debug why that is then the ALG ACT (or try the reduced power springs just for fun) may be the way to go. This issue is something to consider with any aftermarket trigger.
3. Really like the Hiperfire trigger. If you want a single stage trigger and/or are a pistol shooter with a 1911 background this is worth a shot.
4. Really like the MBT trigger too. I am a low level USPSA/IDPA shooter using a S&W M&P for production/SSP division shooting. The MBT more closely replicates the trigger pull of that platform than does the Hiperfire. You can get this trigger for $99 (last time I checked) if you elect the "not in a hurry" option when you order. This is a very nice trigger for $99. Especially when compared to the $200+++ options that are out there.

Bottom line: At the very least get the ALG ACT or something similar. Hopefully you can add the JP spring kit to your build. After that there are a veritable plethora of options.

:thumbup:POF 4.5 or 3.5 can be had for around a hundred bucks or so. I have Geissle on competition guns but use POF on hunting guns. And they come with a set of KNS anti-walk pins. Here ya go

Thread winner. I have POF on all three of my AR's. I can hardly see paying over $100 (hard to swallow) for an AR trigger, but for $120 it's really good bargain. Not only are they very smooth and consistent. They are quite rugged and easy to install. Maybe you need a $200+ trigger for some kind of target competition gun, but interestingly enough I don't really see a lighter or 2 stage trigger making my rifles any more accurate when I can easily detect bullet differences and have the ability too make touching groups with the correct ammo and disciplined concentration.

I'm no AR guru, but I do own four. But I have many rifles that have really good triggers.

I tried one Geissele and was absolutely underwhelmed. I have an original Bushmater Varminter (now Windham) that IMO is far, far superior. Had the Geissele been in my rifles, I would have paid $150 get rid of it to get either the Bushie or Timney. I also have a Timney that I got used, and feels just as good.

If you're fiscally challenged PSA has their enhanced FCG (fire control group) trigger for $29.95 if you catch them on sale. I believe it's basically a stock trigger that is polished and the surfaces hard coated. I bought one for my new build. Haven't gotten a chance to try it yet, but I have a friend that swears it's great

I just got a ambi selector and while I am in it's guts I'm going to polish the FCG parts also. Case hardening isn't a difficult thing to do either once satisfied. As cheap as those parts are if you have a runaway train it's going to last for about 4.5 seconds, surely you will be able too keep it pointed downrange that short time and start over when you get your new parts. I was taught target acquisition was key and hesitation a fault so when x marks the spot just breathe on it and aquire your next target. The simplest way solves the most complex problems most of the time. I've never failed to fail and never failed to try. Just do the best as you can and never fear failure or death.
Both of those are going to be easier as living is what's hard. Working on it's sweet tooth load combination is as good as an Ice cream sandwich is to mine.
Mayfield makes the very best in my hop.
By the time you have all of the available bullet combinations and the correct powder and primer loaded to it's best tasting load a love affair will be starting to blossom
