Looking to hear opinions on which AR vise blocks work best for folks. I found several different models online and just not sure which way to go. Looking to work on upper receiver builds and barrel swaps.
Has anyone tried this model:

That looks like Plastixrevolution, if so, I have. I also use others as well, depending on use. That block is for uppers, and I use it when lapping receivers square where the barrel mounts. This type of block leaves the internal volume of the receiver "empty", which is required for lapping, as the tools nose enters this space.

For barrels, I use a different type, which pins the receiver in a similar fashion, buut it has an extension that fills the internal space, and gives more support when torquing barrels.

This said, it should be remembered that these receivers are aluminum, and it is possible to damage them with these upper receiver blocks. With this in mind, I intend to purchase one of the "reaction rod" types, which appear to me to be the best for stressful applications like torquing/untorquing of barrels.

For barrel swaps the Magpul block and wrench set works great. The Magpul block engages with the barrel extension, not the receiver. The wrench engages standard barrel nuts with either crescents or pins (it has both) and has other useful functions.

If you need access to the bore, like for lapping, the Magpul won't work.

I ditched vise blocks the first time I used the Kley Zion barrel tool, same as the Geissele reaction rod. Same tool, 1/2 the price. Works better than any vice block for barrel installs.

Im one of those "cry once and buy the best" where tools are concerned, and have my eye on the more expensive Geissele model. (175.00) I will post in regard when it arrives.

While the Magpul unit has a steel support, its mainly polymer plastic.
