Have a great trip. The Dark Continent has always held a spell on me, but unfortunately I have never had the funds to visit the long grass. Many books grace the bookshelves. Capstick , Ruark, Selous, Boddington, Carmichael, and O'Connor have led me in my dreams. Through their writing I have felt the heat of the days and the cold of the nights. I have heard the grunt of the lion and seen the stare of Mbogo in their prose.

Go! Savor, for there will come a time when Africa will no longer be Africa. Man will take over and the Wilderness will dwindle. But until then the Buffalo will still stare at you as Ruark stated. " The Cape Buffalo looks at you as if you owe them money."

Hope you have a safe, game filled, most enjoyable time eastbank. But I hate to hear this is your last. 73 isn't old (I'm only 35). But if this is your wish, then just know that so many here will never get a first trip. And count your blessings. Because you are blessed. Make it memorable. But above all, make it back.

No offense but is Africa hunting really that physical ?

i have shot most of the plains animals, so i,m not going to shoot but a few. i realy want to see and thank most of the people that made it possible for me to have very enjoyable hunts and times while there. the hunts can be very hard or easy depending on you, i like to spot and stalk and that takes in alot of walking. my hardest hunt was for this eland, two and a half days of hard walking. as its winter there now the temp,s are mid-30,s in the morning and 70,s or so in the afternoon. i can,t say enough about how well i was treated by the native trackers-skinners-camp workers. the only problems i had were going into botswana in 2014 and it was settled quickly and at o-hara airport in ****cogo where tsa agents ripped open my bags and dumped the contents on the floor to see if i had brought back any contaband, not finding any they just left and i damn near missed my flight home. eastbank.

Jim it can be depending on when you hunt and where. We have such diverse conditions ranging from really heavy brush to savannah to mountains to mountains with brush. It can be a little nerve wracking to walk in terrain where there is stuff than can stomp you to death in a moment or have you for breakfast. You guys have it also, we just proportionately have more of these critters than most other places.

It also depends on the level of hunting experience you want. You want to walk and stalk then yes, you want the easy way out sit on the back of a truck hunt (not hunting for me) then you can book that as well. I am also sure that as with you in Alaska that there is not an animal around every bush waiting to be shot at. You spend the money to come to Africar you want to be shooting something memorable and that takes a little looking for.

We would not have the weather extremes that you guys experience and you would probably not even button up you vest in our winters. Our summers, well yes we would have you at somewhat of an advantage.

I'm over here just trying to pay all my bills and you're flying off to Africa. Totally unfair lol! I'm happy for you Eastbank! Be safe. Let's see some pictures when you make it back. :)

Eastbank, how long did it take for you to clear customs with your rifles etc. I am on a very tight program but would like to meet with you at the airport if but for 10min if we can synchronise watches.

ANDREW, i don,t take any firearms, i use one of my african friends rifles as it saves me the hassle of going thru import-export at the air port. we are to get there at 2:40 pm, but that could change and getting thru the passport check out can also add time to the time we get to the airport exit . i will be wearing a white baseball cap with (PAT-TRAP) on the front.i have my watch set to the time on my computer. maybe it would be better to meet on the return trip, we will be leaving on sat june 17 at 2:05pm and get to the airport at least 1-1.5 hours early . if that sounds better, i,ll have on the same cap with white (PAT-TRAP))on it leaving. eastbank.
