I carry a Smith model 10 snub for defense.

An M13 w/ 3" bbl is excellent. Hello Clarice's revolver. But an M10? YES MAMA!!!
I have a 4" M13 and a 3" M10, both police trade-Ins. I would love for the 3" barrel to transplant itself onto the M13. That 1" of barrel length makes a big difference in 357 because of the full ejector rod stroke.

Last Model 12 I saw at a local gun shop was priced at over $700. It was in decent shape but a bit too much for my budget. have had both a Colt Detective (one sweet revolver), and a Colt Agent (not so sweet). Can't recall seeing all that many Model 10 or Model 12 snubbies at the local gun shows either but I will keep looking.

Boy, if he thinks you are under-gunned he'd have a cow over my favorite CC...

...not just a five-shooter but in a wimpy caliber too, not to mention over a century old. :D

I just traded in a model 64 snub for a wonder 9. As much as I love the aesthetics and nostalgia it just was somewhat useless for me. Too heavy, not as much fire power (6 rounds) and somewhat hard to hit even at closer range.
Don't get me wrong, I have and use several revolvers and sometimes pocket one. But the single stack 9,s these days are just a more efficient platform in my opinion. For what it's worth. One thing though, for newbies, some, most women, and anybody who is not a "gun person", the double action revolver is a great choice as they are simple and reliable and somewhat safe to operate with the long double action trigger.

I carry a snub quite often these days for Off-Duty (depending on weather and associated attire, it's either a Walther CCP or the snub..). The snub in question is a 7 shot S&W 386 Night Guard, loaded w/ the old "Treasury Load" 110gr +P+ jhps.

The 386NG is everything I need in a small(ish) discreet carry piece: great sights, light weight, both comfortable and comforting.
Associated carry gear is usually one HKS speed loader (or two) and two Tuff Products 7 shot speed strips. The holster is either a Bianchi Pancake OWB of a simple Bianchi IWB carried AIWB, under a loose shirt such as a Guyaberra or other such 3rd world fun shirts.

My favorite is a 3" K frame. I like 2" and up as well.

To me, the attributes of short barreled small to medium frame revolvers is that they can be extremely fast into action at contact distance, with one hand. No need to think about "which auto am I carrying" - DA/SA or 1911 type safety, no safety. Pull point shoot. Last but not least, at contact distance you can shove the barrel right into a badguy and shoot; all that expanding gas behind the bullet might have an significant additional effect on the term temporary/permanent would cavity.

Tom Clancy discussed that same scenario in "Without Remorse". His particular scenario involved a 12 gauge target load, but one would think the effect might be only a little less from a .38 special revolver: "It may as well have been an elephant gun."

And then you can still shoot the next round.
