Saw a S&W M&P 9c 9mm in a pawn shop today. Darn good looking little gun. 12 round mag to boot (9mm).

So, what are the opinions here on this little gun?

Thanks,

Deaf

I got mine in... 2008 or 2009?

Not a single malfunction of any kind.

Is $350 to high a price for a used but in excellent condition one?

This one has the Carbon Fiber Finish. Kind of weird looking but seems to be in very good shape.

Have one. Love it. My employer issues the M&P-9Cs for investigators/plainclothes. Works fine. Waiting for the 2.0 version.

350 seems about right for used, perhaps a tad high, as you can often find brand-new for only a little over 400. But with the CF finish, maybe a reason for the price.

I have the M&P full size and the compact. I like them both and carry the compact daily. I also carry the full size magazine with the "XGRIP" sleeve.

Seems a bit high. Bud's Gun Shop has them for $446 along with a $75 rebate. The carbon fiber finish may have been a limited edition version and that's the reason for the higher price. Don't know for sure but I would probably offer $300 and see what they say. Let us know what you decide to do.

It is superior gun to single stack Shield in same caliber. Like most used guns with plastic frame it's worth about $300. If they don't accept that offer I would buy new gun instead. New is new.

Dependent on the application I would not say the MP9c is necessarily superior to the Shield 9mm. I have the MP9 - MP9c & Shield 9mm. Capacity 17Rds - 12Rds & 8 Rds. Of the three the Shield 9mm for the average person in a concealed carry application is most likely the better choice of the three. Superiority of one over the other is dependent on the application. :)

Unless price can be lowered I would pass. Typical competitor is like new P11 9x19 pistol with rotating barrel and twelve round magazines for $300. The double action trigger pull is at least as good as K-framed S&W and quality is probably little better than modern plastic framed S&W pistol. I read their pistols are good. You know, like their fruit, cheese, bread and leather goods. When it comes to used guns we have buyers market right know so there is no point of getting stuck on something and paying too much.

That's hard for me to answer... local market conditions and what's your desire for it are probably the 2 biggest considerations that I know nothing about for your situation.

Personally, the carbon fiber aspect is more of a negative, for me, imo. It probably won't be durable... just like the Walthers PPS wore prematurely. And its not like patina when that finish wears.:barf:

But you might love the finish... or not care about how it will wear if you carry it a lot.

I don't see any $300 quality pistols around me like the others are claiming. I'm seeing $375-$400+ used glocks and dealers charging $75+ for transfers from out of state/area.

Taking that into consideration and how much i do like the gun, I will say that if you offered me $300 for mine I'd laugh out loud AT you. $350 and I'd just chuckle and maybe smirk a little at you.

IOW, it's worth a more than that to me but what I like and want and local conditions are different than yours.

I bought one used for around $325 (if I'm remembering correctly). I could never shoot it well. I even sent it back to S&W thinking there might be something wrong with it because it shot so poorly. They sent it back to me and it was still very inaccurate so I sold it for what I had into it. I have a full sized M&P 9mm, and a Shield. Both of them shoot well for me. I still think there was something wrong with my 9c. I have over 100 different guns and I'm nowhere near as inaccurate with any of them.

I was sad. I really liked that gun.

I bought a used one awhile back for $600 with all kinds of mags and accessories (including a Crimson Trace laser) and I use it and carry it all the time. I never worry about the finish or wear on it and it has always been reliable and accurate. Worth it 100% for me.

There is a $75 rebate available on brand new ones.
I thought the rebate was only for the Shield and ended in June. There is a deal for the M&P going on right now where you get two extra mags, two boxes of ammo and a mag loader.

The current rebate depends upon where you live. In most states it is as you state. If you live HI, AK or in a state with restrictions on ammo shipments or mag size they have a $75 rebate.

I think a M&P Compact would be a good choice. In fact, several weeks ago I bought a S&W M&P40c. I can't say much about it yet as it hasn't seen much range time, but they seem to be good guns, and it fits my hand very well. Seems about a perfect blend of capacity and size for a concealment gun. As for the price, I'd think it would be hard to find one used for much less in good condition. However, with current prices on a new one, I'm not sure it makes sense to buy one used right now. You can find a new one online for between $400-450, and depending upon your local gun prices, it might not be much more in person. Then, depending upon your state, you can get some free ammo and extra mags (and a mag loader) or $75 off.

I've had a 9c for several years now, and it shoots as well (very well) as my two FS M&P9's.

I also use the 17 round mags with the X-Grip for my reloads.

I'd be all over it, but here behind the cannabis curtain, used M&P's (all except 9 and 40 Shields) typically go for $600-$800 because S&W abandoned the CA market and they fell off the roster.

In a free state, you could probably do better than $350. You are looking for a shooter gun, not a collector's item. Get a plain one, shoot the heck out of it and have fun with it. With the extended mag, it shoots like a full size M&P and you also have the advantage of a decent CCW gun.

There are always stories or places where you could have gotten a better deal. I picked up one with an Apex trigger and 6 magazines with original case hardly shot for $330 OTD

If you are happy with the gun and the price you paid for it so be it. I think you got a good deal. Especially with the carbon fiber finish. Those look nice.

I have a first production 9c. It shot 4 inches to the right and it had a dead trigger. It had been to Smith 3 times. Accuracy was fixed when the put on night sights for me on the second return, which corrected the accuracy problem. It was last fixed in 2016. It seems ok now. I have a few hundred rounds through the last fix, when they installed a new trigger. I still carry the using it for EDC. Gun Tests magazine initially gave it an F rating. I give it an A. I could not see selling a firearm that was not up to par to anyone intending to use it for EDC. I hope this helps. If you can afford a new one, I would go that route. As far as I can tell, they worked the bugs out of it.

To be honest I'm surprised you kept it, especially since you returned it to S&W (3) times. I have not had that experience with my example of the MP9c.

I like the gun so I persevered. It works fine now. I couldn't in good conscience sell it with that flaw. I guess that I could have pressed them to exchange it, but in the Peoples Republic of New York it isn't that easy.
