I'm trying to figure out the year of a fn browning humpback with a serial number in the 40,000 range. Any help would be great

This is what confuses me because there are no letter prefixes on the serial. If I understand correctly it's a 1957? Do I need to look elsewhere for the letter?

16ga has a separate serial number system from 12 ga, you can google it.
This is the best reference for Auto-5's. The Browning page is full of errors.
